That Tiger is a beauty. Not knowing a great deal about Wings jerseys, but isn't the style of lettering different on Wings pre-season jerseys? The lettering there looks like the regular season lettering. Or is that pre/reg season a fairly new thing?

Either way - he is the main man, he is top of the shop, he is numero uno. Great to have a jersey of the all-time NHL league leader in anything, but PIM's? That's a winner right there.

From what I've seen, the straight name on a name plate for Wings preseason jerseys vs. the arched names sewn directly to the jersey for regular season jerseys started in the mid-90's. In the 80's and early 90's, the preseason jerseys looked the same as the regular season ones from a lettering standpoint, but were typically older, recycled stock like the Tiger, which is definitely from 83-84 as the crest is different than what they started wearing in 84-85 that's carried through to the present day.

Not to say the Tiger wasn't worn through to the early games of the regular season in 84-85 as well, just haven't found a photo confirming it yet. Any video of him, and its very limited, shows him in action later in the regular season and his jersey had the newer/current crest. There is another Tiger (road red) from the same season currently in the hobby that had the same characteristics (same born on date, same older crest, same older style fight strap) and it was identified as being a preseason jersey as well. I'm still researching to see if I can find a picture of him in the regular season wearing this jersey -

2002-2003 Andrei Nazarov Coyotes Set 1 road with custom coin and skate lace front fight strap and torn & repaired neck. Good wear to both sleeves with many board burns and unrepaired holes – looks to have seen action in as many as 10 fights!

2000-2001 Jason Doig Rangers home PS – worn in fight vs. Colin White

1995-1996 Bill Huard Michigan K-Wings 3rd with heavily fight-damaged neck

2006-2009 Darren McCarty/Ryan Oulahen Red Wings – gameworn Oulahen PS jersey that had nameplate removed and was re-purposed ‘McCarty’

1988-1991 Ronnie Stern IHL Milwaukee Admirals special-game throwback jersey – jersey is a HiLi Ice Sheen jersey & has one small slash mark/cut on the upper front - still researching to determine the specific date/game this jersey was worn during the late 80's to early 90's time period when Ice Sheen jerseys were worn by many IHL teams -

1999-2000 Kelly Chase Blues Home Set 2 – NHL2000 patch, modified fight strap & some fight damage to neck – from his final season in the NHL and since he did not play in the playoffs that year, most likely the final home jersey of his career -

1999-2000 Derek Boogaard Prince George Cougars gameworn road jersey - 33 games, 149 PIM's, 16 fights - extensions added to both sleeves as well as the torso so this size 54 jersey would fit him (bottom pic below shows the panel sewn in that separates the very bottom of the black stripe from the remainder of it) -
