OK - that was horrible - and I know better but I just had to.

So, as you may or may not know, I grew up the son of a hockey coach on the plains of North Dakota - worshiping the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. I remember Belfour, Joyce, Hrkac (still can't spell that right), Christian and a slew of others.

Now that I have gotten older - I still follow them and was able to go and see the Frozen Four in Denver last year (damn you Boston College) but most of my collections are focused around ex-Sioux players - Zajac, Parise, Stafford, and now TJ Oshie and Brian Lee. I have been able to pick up a few nice Oshie pieces but have really been struggling for that one piece with which to build my Brian Lee collection around.

So without further adieu...oh and did I mention that this is the Gold Version 1 of 1!

For those that may not know the UND Fighting Sioux logo - here it is as well...

Now - I am not here to start a debate just state facts - and the fact is that UND may lose the Sioux mascot and logo so sometime in the not so distant future this logo may be gone, which makes me a little relieved to know that part of one of the emblems will live in my home for quite some time!

Thanks for the look!
Joe

Nice card.

I remember hearing that there were issues with UND using the logo that they have back when I played NCAA in 2005. There is some rule with NCAA not allowing anything associated with Native American symbols to be the logos for teams. If they did lose their logo though, it would take forever to take all the symbols out of Ralph Englestad (Spelling?) Arena. I remember playing in that rink, it is awsome and those Fighting Souix heads are everywhere. I personally think the symbol is awsome and I hope they don't have to change it.

Cheers
Connie

Yes, Ralph Engelstad will roll over in his grave if North Dakota changes their name. He was proud of their nickname, and threatened to withdraw funding for the $100M arena if they ever changed it. He put the logo everywhere in the arena so it would be a costly thing to remove them all. I think his family still owns the arena and rents to the university. So if they do change their nickname, watch for the family to say "See ya" to the university playing there.

Nice 1/1 patch card, by the way. Very sweet!!

Joe congrats on the patch.

When I lived in Winnipeg me, my son and his hockey buddies would drive down to Grand Forks and watch the Sioux play all the time.
My son played in the old rink a couple of times in youth hockey tournaments.
I haven't been to the new arena yet.

Awesome patch dude.

That's nicer than some of the patches I've seen coming from the Chicago jerseys. :D
