OK, here is the story. So my subscription to Beckett has just run out and I am not going to re-up with them. I find the pricing to be off at times. That is just saying the least. Now I was thinking about doing a spreadsheet type format and creating my own price guide. I would have to use final sales from ebay to make this work. Now I know that it would be a daunting task but I may be up for it. With this it would have actual prices that hockey cards sell for. I am not meaning to compete with Insiders Edge at all by the way. I was just thinking that having a big database of sales for cards would help in buying/selling/trading. Plus it could be up to date and not every second month like Beckett has theirs. I could send out a weekly update of sales. It would also be nice to have a decent database of SP sales. Would any of you guys be interested if I do this. I am just throwing the idea out there. What would be a good price point to charge? What would be the best format to do it in? I know that I could not come anywhere close to seeing every completed listing so would doing something like just ITG cards be a good idea. Would I be legally allowed to post all ebay completed listings, Would I have to get approval by hockey card companies to post their sales, etc. If anyone has any other questions or comments or they think I am nuts please let me know.

This is exactly what the IE's pricing guide does... plus there are short reports too. Why double up the work? Just subscribe and have it there in front of you :)

I'd have to agree with Kevin... :giggity:

First time for everything eh? :)

Oh, and please do not use my emoticon - I am the only one allowed to use Mr. Quagmire, thank you kindly. My lawyers have been informed of this infraction, Brian :giggity:

LOL

I think doing something like this takes a collective effort and therefore I have to agree with the above posters that contributing to Insider's Edge is the way to go.

I think what needs to change about this hobby is any sort of attitude that there is any particular price guide that can be considered the authority... that goes for Insider's Edge as well... collective effort in obtaining past sales values and a nonchalant view towards what is published is the only way to go.

We all need to quit referring to Beckett, eBay, or any other source to be unequivocally considered the valuation of a card. Values are not black and white. They are grey.

That's kind of funny. My lawyers have advised me not to agree with you :)

Actually, I agree with you. The guide we put together shows a range of values from a specific time, and that range can be a moving target even the day the information is provided to Mario to layout in the magazine. The point of the guide is to provide information, not be a bible of values. If a Patrick Kane card ranges from $25 to $50, and you see it for sale for $15... use the information to get a good deal. If it's listed at $125? Well... at least you can walk away knowing what other copies have sold for previously.

We put out a call for helpers on the price guide last month, and were overwhelmed. We now have a team of 4 guys accumulating the information and will continue with that team for the time-being. If you are interested in being on the list of "back ups", please message danvincent78 and he'll keep your name. Thanks for the interest. Buy an Insider's Edge!
