My only beef with BBR, and my solution...

So far, I've dropped a couple of bucks on BBR singles, and I have to say, overall it is an excellent product. The designs are overall very solid, and the gu pieces are mostly well selected to minimize one colour pieces.

My single beef though, is the toploaders. I hate toploaders. And when it comes to really high end, 1/1 multi-patch cards out of a $600/pack product I REALLY Hate toploaders. I am really strongly considering breaking the seals on all my BBR cards, and putting the cards in one touch cases.
I know when push comes to shove, I won't be able to bring myself to do it, but I wish that doing so wouldn't "ruin" the value of the cards.

So, here is my solution to this problem; instead of putting Superlative 3 cards in sealed toploaders, put them in non-sealed one touch holders. That way, collectors can use whatever protection they choose, but the cards will still arrive safe.

If that option is too expensive, then use non-sealed toploaders, in team bags.

Please Dr. Price, whatever you do, no more sealed toploaders.

I bought a couple singles out of Superlative... I had no qualms about breaking the seals and displaying them how I wanted.

Consider the issues that 1 touch would create.

7 cards per pack if you were buying online can you imagine the shiping cost for the extra weight!

What size would you use? 100pt? 130pt? a mix of both? seems like that could cause issues too.

You can do it yorself once the cards are in hand. I know plenty of people who cut ITG Ultimate cards from the slabs and display them as they want so superlative BBR sould be a doddle.

Keep things as they are and do your own thing once the card is yours

I hate the toploaders too. I have a couple cards from the original Superlative, and I broke the seal right away and removed them. I know it hurts their re-sale value, but it made them look so cheap IMO.

Here's an even better suggestion for Mr Price. Quit making your new releases out of card stock that is warping like tortilla chips. It's prevalent throughout Heroes & Prospects AND BB&R even though you said it wasn't.

You see, I actually like Superlative for this exact reason. As a collector that hates slabbed cards, this is the alternative for me. Just a personal preference. Although one-touch holders would be nice, I just cant see it happening. So for now, this works for me And not too mention, it makes it a lot easier to store singles in da' shoebox. Thanks!

I'm actually a fan of the top loaders. I don't buy UM just because of the sealed graded cases and Topps Encased cards drive me nuts.

Leave Superlative as is...the problem with the one touch holders is that the authenticity guarantee is gone right from the start. ITG 's seal is on it for a purpose.

I hate slabbed cards and I hate displaying my cards in top loaders. Only one-touches for me. If I find a piece I want in my PC I will cut it out and put it in a one-touch.

I like one touch holders, I like slabs, I like top loaders. As long as they have Howie Morenz cards in them, I could care less. Until I can find a way that I like to display them, I am not going to worry about it too much.

the seals are worthless.they break very easily when shipped in a bubbler.with broken seals, people will think card has been tampered with.its as no-win situation.i,for one, like the slabbed cards,but they do take up room. i also like the toploaders,but a better design of seal needs to be used,maybe one without perferation.

I'm a HUGE fan of the toploader - as a collector of 03/04 UM4 autos & auto/jerseys, having Superlative come in sealed toploaders appeals to me.

I don't like the slabs... never have... never will. Give me toploaders any day over slabbers.

you guys now how much it is to ship 7 one touches??
all that room the packaging will have to be WAY bigger to fit 7 cards..

if you like it slabbed break open the case get it graded..
if you like it one touches break open the case get it one touched..
if you like a toploader .. there you go it comes in one..

what i do agree on is the warped cards..

I love the one touch, but doubt it'd happen. They'd probably seal the top with some sort of sticker like they did for 03-04 Topps Pristine?

A) I do not think that any of you are taking into account one of the reasons that ITG is using the sealed toploaders. If you bothered to read the promotional material you would have seen the blurb about each card is hand packed AND examined. In this pricey product _ I believe the intention of sealing the toploader with the ITG sticker is to keep the card from slipping out AND most importantly to take away the aspect of damaged card requests.
Pretty hard to ask ITG for a replacement card for the item a collector bought & was damaged in transport - when the cards were protected in this manner. This is as opposed to The Cup cards that have some sort of damage about one in every other box.

B) Personally I am not a fan of ITG Ultimate Memorabilia sealed cases, since the after-market purchase of these cards inevitably shows handling wear on the display portions of the cases. I have more than a couple of rare & shiny UM cards in my collection that have cases with fronts that are virtually ruined. And worse yet- scanners do not pick up those scratches very well either.

C) Dr Price, please do comment on the warping of the card stock on BBR. I bought this product because I was enthralled with the aspect of collecting pieces of Montreal history, even though I bleed Red & White of my Wings. However - before I decide to commit to cases & cases of MY Team's version of BBR - I will have to know whether these cards will endure in the manner of a product in this price range. Will the warping get worse in six months or two years????

I am asking in a respectful manner - unlike a few other comments - and it is a valid issue.
You have been more than fair about giving your input in the past - even when provoked by the stupidity that can abound in our hobby - and this needs your attention as well.

And that is all I have to say about that!

Ya they may be a bit of a pain, but it helps stop peopel from putting in fake patches and stuff.
Personally I woulnt buy a card that was not in a sealed toploader/slabbed case it came in.

If you are wanting it for your own collection, feel free to break it open and use the holder that you would prefer, but if you ever wanted to move that card for whatever reason, you may find it hard.

Toploaders are good, attleast i like them.

Slabs in current UM in otherhand are not that good, Beckett slabs are alot better because they interlock (bit language probs here, hopefully that is correct word) when current UM slabs wont.
