I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my collecting activities in 2018. With Jarome Iginla officially retiring, I'm thinking that the crazy number of parallels might be finished and a more reasonable pace could be "in the cards". Iggy is closing in on 5500 cards, and I recently popped over 3300 in my pc. The COMC Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales were a pleasant surprise, and I pulled in close to 50 new cards, most of them under $2.00 each.

World Cup soccer meant that I had to chase something from Panini Prizm FIFA World Cup cards, and a couple of sets presented themselves. I ended up buying 4 boxes, but the majority of the cards I needed for the 2 sets I chased were bought on eBay.

If you've seen my threads before, you know that I like to have a theme when presenting the cards. Since I live in a province with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, I decided to decorate the walls of a cabin (which I own only in my imagination) with my Top 10.

Top 10 for 2018

The title is a bit misleading, there will be more than 10 cards. Most pages follow a theme, it would be silly to pick out 1 soccer card from the set, so the whole set is shown.

I continue to chase Superlative All-Star Quad Patches when I can find them at a reasonable price. There are 2 gold & 1 silver "Vault" versions shown.

Show cards can be a nuisance for many player competionists. My wantlist has pages of them, and I try to pick up some when I can without getting too stressed about it. The colors really pop off the first 2 cards, and the middle card is quickly becoming one of my favorite cards to look at, very shiny and it has a spectacular design.

The stadiums for the World Cup were amazing, so I decided to put together the Host City set. I added a qr code to make my page interactive. It will take you to a video on YouTube providing details on the stadiums and cities.

My 2nd pc is made up of Steve Yzerman BAP/ITG slabbed cards. I was fortunate to make a connection with someone on eBay that had a bunch of them.

I picked up a few beauties from Dr. Price, always a highlight purchase for my pc.

I added some top notch Iginla cards this year. Each of the cards above came from a different source. The Ultimate Performers #3/3 card came from COMC, the 10/10 patch came from eBay, the Ultimate Performers #14/15 was a free card from Tony (aflamesfan) when we completed our in person deal for the last Splendor card that I needed, the Premier Collection Auto #2/6 came from my buddy Chris (forsberg21), and the 2005-06 Black Diamond #1/1 came in a HI deal with Greg (g-force). Making contacts is so important, and the card is so much more enjoyable when you pull it in from those personal contacts.

This card is a perfect example of how personal contacts can help bring in some monster cards. Curt (GabbyGuy) pulled this card and contacted me to see if I was interested. (Is water wet?:speechless:) Even better, we were able to work out a trade that worked for both of us.

As I mentioned before, my 2nd pc consists of Yzerman BAP/ITG slabbed cards. eBay sure knows how to push my buttons, between bonus eBay bucks & 15% off sales I was able to add some sweet Yzerman cards that I had been watching for quite some time.

Splendor was a pleasant surprise, as it presented me with some great looking cards in a smaller grouping. These are all of the Splendor cards for Iggy minus the 1/1 cards. Icing on the cake for me was that I finished the group by meeting up with Tony (aflamesfan) for an in person deal.

That brings us to #1, and this year it isn't connected to my Iginla pc. The World Cup was center stage this summer, and I'm a huge fan. Germany is my team, but there are so many outstanding teams to watch that I fired up my PVR and watched all the games. I decided that I would look for a product to open, and Panini Prizm fit the bill. I started by buying 2 boxes, and found a neat card called "National Landmarks". I loved the look of the card, so I decided to do some digging online to find out more about the set. There are 32 cards in the set, one for each country represented in the World Cup. I was fortunate to pull in all of the cards, and even bought 2 more boxes to see what else I could get. Panini was very good to me, as I was able to add autos of the 2018 Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, along with a Ronaldo auto and a quad Argentina auto. :woot::woot:

I want to finish off with a few shout outs to some fellow HI'ers that have been very helpful this year. Randy (Orca Pod) sent me a free Bossy rc when he saw how pathetic mine looked, and didn't want anything in return. Tony (aflamesfan) for his generosity as detailed above with the Ultimate Performers card, and parting with the last Splendor card I needed. Curt (GabbyGuy) and Tim (TurcoCollector3) for trades and information they have provided, as well as Nathan (Nathan7070) for his help. Of course my other Iggy collectors, Chris (forsberg21)and Jayden (hen44jay) continue to connect with me re: Iggy's cards and the hobby in general. We really have a great community here, so I thought I'd send out a reminder if you're considering a donation to the site. I sent mine in yesterday. A final thank you to Jeremy and the mods that keep things running smoothly.

Happy New Year to one and all, and best wishes for your collecting efforts in 2019!

Al

Thanks for stopping by JR. I even decorated it without any help from my wife!

Thanks Jayden, we'll have to set up a visit when you get back to town.

I'm as much of an Iggy backer as the next guy, but that PC Yzerman One of a Kind might be Best in Show.

Joe

Thanks Joe, the wheel always looks sharp on Yzerman cards!

Well done, great job in 2018. Your pickups are stunning! My favourite is that President's Choice stick Nameplate 1/1 !

Thanks Aaron, it is a sharp looking card!

Thanks for sharing. I thought your Iginla Splendor was going to be #1!

Happy new year AL.

Thanks, and Happy New Year to you as well. I considered putting the Splendor cards at #1, but the National Landmarks set was a more intense experience, and took much longer to put together.

Love the futbol. That Landmarks set is quite nice :)

Thanks, it is one of my favorite sets from over my many years of collecting.

Always feels good to help out a fellow collector. :D
