2016 was a very fun and successful year in collecting for me. Over the past 12 months I managed to knock off a few big cards on my Jarome Iginla wantlist. And beyond the collecting goals, I got to meet a number of the awesome members of HI! It's always nice to put a face to the name, and I look forward to meeting more members in the years to come!
It was tough to only select 10, but I managed to cross the last few honourable mentions off the list. So here we go!
10. 14-15 Parkhurst Priority Signings /5
Finally a Jagr/Iginla dual auto! Jagr was also a favourite player of mine growing up. And apparently he won't be quitting any time soon!
9. 09-10 SP GU Game Gear /3
Got this one from Jeff (Gratzi), this was my first Game Gear card in my Iggy collection. Love the look of these!
8. 97-98 UD Game Jersey
A nice eBay find! This is the first memorabilia card of Iginla. Very tough find these days
7. Totally Certified Epix (Red, Blue /50, Gold /25, Emerald /5)
Really like this insert set, thanks to Djsports for the deal on the Emerald /5. Also, The Gold is jersey #'d 12/25
6. 14-15 Black Diamond Rainbow (Base, Orange, Ruby /50, Emerald /10, Sapphire 1/1)
I had most of these back in 14-15 but I was missing the Ruby /50. I had a heck of time trying to find one, since I didn't try to chase the rainbow until after I pulled in the 1/1. None seemed to show up anywhere a year later, despite it having 50 copies. So Al (Uhtred the Viking) was kind enough to let go of his copy. Big thanks to him for helping me complete it! It has been great getting to know Al, he is a top notch member!
5. 01-02 Atomic Blue 12/12
Always chasing Jersey #'d cards! What's better than a 12/12?! Thanks to Chris (Forsberg21) for this beauty! And for all the other awesome Iginla cards you've sent my way!
4. ITG Badge of Honor Shield 1/1
This was my first official Iginla Shield! But wait, I didn't stop there...
3. 13-14 National Treasures Auto Shield 1/1
Another shield showed up on eBay in the same month! This time it's got an auto as well! Let's just say the wife almost sent me to the doghouse after those two big purchases in the same month!
2. 02-03 SP Game Used First Rounders 24/30
This one has a long story to it...
This is one of 5 serial numbered cards that has been produced that show Iginla wearing #24 in his rookie year and is numbered to at least 24 or higher. I've always wanted a jersey numbered card of Iginla with the 24 on it. It was one of those wants that I never actually thought would be a reality. And what do you know, the card shows up one day! I wasn't able to make a deal with the owner of the card, and things didn't seem to end well there. I was pretty disappointed I lost my only chance I might ever have. So after some thought, I decided to contact Jeremy (Gomaz) and thought I'd take a long shot request and see if he was willing to contact the guy. Sure enough, Jeremy was willing to give it a go. And I couldn't believe my eyes when he messaged me to tell me he had swung the deal for me! The guy has some sort of magical powers! A huge thanks to him!
1. 15-16 Cup Black Foil Auto Shield 1/1
And last, but certainly not least. My first Cup 1/1 in the Iggy PC! This one just came in yesterday! It's been a Shield kinda year for me! Never would have imagined to pull in 3 in one year! Now here's hoping next year will be a Property Of kinda year! I hope your listening Upper Deck... 16-17 Cup...
