My Top 10 Pickups for 2018 (bamlinden)

Love the Linden inscription but what's the story (if there is one) behind your Oscar Gamble PC? Great cards all around!

Here’s my Oscar Gamble story.

I had received a nice batch of cards from a person who was exiting the hobby. We had traded a few times in the past, we both followed each other’s blogs, we knew each other a bit.

He sent me some cards and one of them jumped out at me. It was the iconic 1976 Topps Traded Oscar Gamble (the one with the massive afro. I just thought it was a really fun card.

A few months later, a different blogger came up with the idea of having a “wallet card” where he would put a baseball card in his wallet and anytime he was at a cool place or doing something neat, he would take a picture of it with his “wallet card” in the frame and then post it to his blog. It would kind of like the travelling gnome thing. He was encouraging others to do the same and so I thought I’d go with the ‘76 Gamble.

It was fun for a while and then it just clicked that I should start a player collection. I took a look at the number of cards he had (less than 200) and noticed that most were mere pennies. I thought “what’s the harm?”

Turns out it’s been one of the most fun projects I’ve worked on. I like to try and find cards locally so I don’t jump at snagging everything all at once at COMC or ebay. It’s been great.

Sad story about my “wallet card”....a couple years ago it was nearly destroyed when I accidentally washed my wallet. It was brutal. But I taped the card back up and it still sits in my wallet today. A reminder that doing good things means good things will happen. And to Pay It Forward when you can.

So there you go. Thanks for asking. :)
