I will start.

Joe Sakic should have retired years ago. His play has so diminished he is a liability every time he takes the ice. He should be charged with a felony evry time he cashes a check from the Avs. No wonder he has lost so much hobby love that it is almost impossible to move any of his cards.

Your turn........

haha what? That was a good joke, THE GUY SCORED 100 POINTS LAST YEAR! This season he was injured half the season and is still almost a point a game guy.

I would take him any day of the week on my team.

My vote for most overrated player goes to Mats Sundin, I love the guy, he is the best Leaf ever but if you listen to the media in Toronto, he is # 3 behind Gretzky and Lemieux.

He is a very solid top 20 forward, probably a HHOFer but he was never a dominant player.

Don't know about Sakic...but I've got two words for you...

ROBERTO LUONGO

What's he ever done do get the hobby love he receives? What's he won? A World Championship?...whoo...big deal. He played behind the best team in the world. What Canada goaltender hasn't won a World Championship or World Jr.?

What's he done in the NHL? NOTHING! No Vezina, no Conn Smythe, no Stanley Cup appearances. Only one playoff appearance in his entire "brilliant" career. And he was outplayed by Turco in that series.

If the guy was as talented as the grease that holds his hair back, he'd probably deserve some of the praise he gets. My favorite response is when people say the Panthers or Canucks would be worse without him. Guess what? They're horrible with him. There are far less talented teams than the Canucks that made the playoffs this year with better goaltending.

I won't even touch the joe sakic one,
there's no way he's overrated, if anything, he's underrated.

as per Luongo, look at the teams he plays on, just can't score.
If the guy gives up 3 goals, he's going to lose, no doubt about it,

I bet he has maybe 10 wins in his career where he's given up more than 3 goals.

A name who you wouldn't think of is starting to look overrated, and that's Martin Brodeur.

As that team's defensive prowess disappears, his numbers have steadily risen,

I don't think he is, I think he's one of the best, but, you hear "what a bad goal allowed by brodeur" a lot more often of late.

No Vezina

Umm... wouldn't his lack of awards show that he is not highly praised by the league?

Luongo was not good this year, but the season before he was robbed of the Vezina. I watch on average of 2 NHL games a day, and from what I've seen he is in the top 5 goaltenders in the NHL.

And for the record, there were very few teams with a talent level below that of the Canucks this season.

And to the person who said Joe Sakic... :banned:

Tell me what game are you watching - if there's anyone who's overrated, it's Marc Savard - gets points, but rarely gets them when you need them most. And will always take a stupid penalty at the worst time

Joe Sakic is a HOFer, in the hockey hobby, he was the most underated player, he got no respect, Just like Rodney said, NO RESPECT.

Jeff,

I think you're feeling this way since one team Sakic doesn't exactly own is the Red Wings and they are currently owning the Av's in the playoffs. While Sakic for sure tailed off this year I can think of some others:

Any Leaf rookie. Everyone gets WAY overhyped going into Leaf Nation.

Speaking of rookies Sam Gagner is another.

Some really interesting picks here for most-overated player!!
I didn't think most of these guys would be on this list.....WOW!!

I would not be a legitimate Red Wings' fan if I did not take below the belt shots at the Avs during a playoff series. Welcome to Hockeytown.

p.s. Mighty Joe just finished another game sans a point.

Yeah...Nashville, Boston, and Jersey all have so much more talent scoring than Vancouver. Are you nuts? Anaheim, Jersey, Rangers, and Boston all had less scoring this year but found a way in.

How many more years of Luongo defending will it take to just admit...he's not that good.

Umm Boston has Murray, Bergeron, Savard, Sturm... all can put the puck in the net.
Anaheim has Getzlaf, Perry, Selannee, Bertuzzi, Weight
NJ has Parise, Elias, Gionta
Nashville has Radulov, Dumont, Arnott
Rangers have Shanahan, Gomez, Drury, Jagr

For Vancouver, I have ZERO hope in ANY forward on the team taking a shot from the circles. They don't have finish. The Sedins have some magic, but they go on streaks, and get shut-down very often. Naslund is not a star anymore. They don't have any players that can put the puck where it needs to be on a shot, it's all pinching D-men and rebounds. Sometime the Sedins will cycle around and set up a tap in, but the Canucks are weaker than all the teams you stated in scoring TALENT.

Luongo is in the Top 5 goaltenders in the NHL.

Luongo is probably a #10-#15 goalie in the NHL, and has done nothing to prove otherwise. He's a legitimate starter with a lot of talent, but he's nowhere near being in a class of his own.

Nice idea for a thread but, WOW, Joe Sakic? No way. He might not have what he used to be I wouldn't call him overrated.

How about:

MIKE RICHARDS

another battle no one is going to win :|

Luongo overrated no way, Sakic no way , Richards future Captain no way

what about someone like Phil Kessel if we are going to take about 3rd year guys

Brodeur, Turco, Lundqvist, Osgood, Nabokov, Kiprusoff, Price, Giguere, Miller, DiPietro, and arguably on par with Vokoun, LeClaire, Hasek, Huet. And I'll defer to Chris's argument on team impact rather than simply staring at the stats until they make sense.

I have always thought Marian Hossa was overrated...I have no love for guys that disappear in the playoffs.

I also agree with Marc Savard being overrated.

Price? Osgood????? Miller??????????????? On par with Huet? I'm not quite sure what the heck it is you're smoking but it must be something else!

Yeah, gotta agree with you. Luongo may be overrated, but he's easily top 10, if not top 5.
