Need advise: Last Card found.

Well I found it, the last piece of the Atlanta Thrashers The Cup project, the Cobrun Rainbow /4. I was doing my Coburn Cup search, there it was, in an eBay store. I emailed the guy that has it (a basketball collector :/) and told him my story. Anyways, he wants $425. I'm thinking do it, Ill have every the Cup Cobrun & Slater (-1/1's). But $425....he paid $250 and I realize that he needs to make a profit (it's on eBay for $599.99) but for $175 than what he offered I can get his entire dang GW 1st point jersey. So, what would you do. I started this quest thinking there's no way I'd ever get one, so I won't feel awful but at the same time if I complete it...wow. Then again, Slates & Cobie are the Thrashers two best prospects, if Cobie lives up to his potential I'd be A) Proud that I believed in them before anyone else. B) RICH ha ha. I'm also seriously thinking of passing on the card and adding the Jersey. Thanks all.

Card and jersies are two different things. Personally if I was collecting a player I'd probably make the purchase. Sure you can buy a jersey but do you collect jerseys? You've dreamt of getting them all and you found the last one. It's not something that will lose its value quickly either so its a safe investment if you choose to change your mind down the road. If you know he bought it for that price then counter with another price lower than what he quoted you but higher than what he paid. If not then you can either just buy it from him or wait it out and hope another shows....

Personally I think it's overpriced, I would wait to see if another one pops up. $425 for a /4 that is not considered a rookie card? His 1/1 most likely don't go that high. I think what he paid was a bit more reasonable. I agree with my fellow Pens fan above, make a counter offer and if he doesn't take it, wait it out. I believe at that price he'll have it for a while.

Just an opinion though, do what you think is right.

Honestly, I don't think it's any of your business what he paid for it. If you're comfortable with the sale price, buy it. If not, then you shouldn't. But don't sit and kvetch about how much he paid.

There are four of them. I would probably wait. The other three are bound to turn up eventually, and I doubt that he's going to sell this one at that price.

If I were you, I'd buy the jersey. Coburn's cards are never going to be worth that much because he's a defenseman in a non-traditional hockey market. So don't buy it if it's an investment. The jersey, however, will hold value.

If you still have your heart set on the card, offer him lower like someone else said.

Bottom line, buy what you want - What he paid for it is immaterial to you - that boat came and went and he got on.

I can understand why his price is where it is - there is going to be someone that goes after the set of gold patches and will go after it. There may be 3 other copies and one might pop up at some point, but the question is - do you want to take the chance? You could end up in a bidding war with one or more people. I'd prefer complete GU jerseys myself but that's me.
