Need Some Help on how to handle this....

Soooo........

I was finally able to land a major card for my Taylor Hall Collection. a BGS 9.5 of his Young Guns Exclusives /100. Here is the picture from the auction:



I was pretty stoked as it was a decent price and the holder seemed in pretty good condition.

The card arrived today and this is what I have:



It may be hard for you to tell, but it looks like the inner sleeve of the holder has broken into several pieces. These aren't scratches on the outside of the holder, it is the plastic "pennysleeve" type thing in the holder that has shattered or deteriorated or something like that.

The seller does not accept returns, so I have not contacted him yet. Will send a message, but am not expecting much in that regards.
I have 3 days to make a claim with ebay under their money back guarantee as the item is not as described. There was NO mention of this in the description at all. This is a first for me and I'd appreciate any help or advice on what's best to do. I am worried that these pieces of plastic may be scratching the surface of the card, causing it to no longer be a BGS 9.5.

So I contacted the seller, explained what happened and he said he would do a return. In the meantime, I received a message from our very own cfind informing me of a store in Calgary that had a replacement for me. I inquired on pricing, and though it ended up costing me a little more than I wanted, I couldn't let this pass by, so I have added the following to my collection:



I'm really pleased with this- it has a Population of 1 for PSA grading. It is definitely one of the top 5 for my collection, maybe top 3.

I am not positive about how it works. But rather a seller say no returns or not. If you did not
get what you paid for than I believe the seller will need to refund you.Best of luck with that.

You can definitely open a case for item not as described and get your money back. The seller would have to provide the return shipping label.

I'm fairly certain that happened in shipping and was not the seller's fault - looking at the eBay pic. Unless well protected I have seen the cases shatter from going thru the roller/sorters at the post office.

If the price was fair - you could also contact BGS about having the case replaced.

I would agree with Bruce, this looks like it may have happened during shipping. If it's because the seller didn't package it properly, that's on them, and you could make the case they should pay for BGS to reslab it for you.

Yeah it was pictured this way for sure, but the seller should have disclosed that. I think you have a case for a refund as item not as described should you wish to go that route.

Sending to be reslabbed is an option, but hard to tell if any new damage would cause the card to get a lower grade. Not sure of their process in that regard.

A couple things to mention:

If the damage was as in the original listing, I would have been ok with that and this thread would not exist. The picture doesn’t really show how bad it is. There is a big difference between the listing pic and the “real life” condition.
Secondly, the item was sent in a 200 count box with LOTS of newspaper so I doubt that this was a result of shipping.

The left pic shows an undamaged case, with the bottom tab. The right pic is your card and shows that tab missing (destroyed within the case). If you go back to the ebay link you can see it very clearly.

100%. That's why I mentioned it. The case is better if it was damaged before shipping, instead of it happening during shipping - where it would be an insurance case.

And I wouldn't try and get it reslabbed. If the card is damaged BGS probably wouldn't put the same grade on it.

Again, this isn't a shipping issue. The card is clearly missing the inner tab that hold the card in place. Somehow the hard plastic tab has been shattered and the fragments are floating around inside the case. There is no telling if theyve done any damage to the card, but you should not take that risk. I know you felt you got a deal on this card but seriously open a case and send it back.

I've detailed the inner tabs in the picture below and how the Hall is missing it on the bottom and possibly on the right.

The seller does not accept returns

eBay doesn't care at all what a sellers return policy is at all if the item not as described. What you received does not fit what they represented in the listing. If you want to do a return, start one before your window closes.

That's weird. I've graded with BGS over the years to the tune of 500 times and I have NEVER seen the inner sleeve shatter like that. The original auction does show the inner sleeve damage though.

Regardless, the seller's policies mean squat against eBay's policy. Initiate a return. If this is a grail card, I'd consider cracking it out of there and resubbing it.

Even if it happened during shipping and it becomes an insurance issue, that's on the seller. He provides return label, you send back, he refunds and then he dukes it out with the shipping company.

Also the condition of the card in the eBay listing has some messed up edges, especially on the back. Not a chance that grades a 9.5. Something very fishy about the cracked slab, missing tab and the bad condition of the card. Anyone run the S/N on becket?
