New eBay Seller Feedack Rating System

It's too complicated!! The other one was a nice one line per feedback. This one has too many details. If I wanted to see the details I would have clicked on the item number. I hate it when they make changes lol

As a seller, it's horrible. Absolutely horrible.

You can be the most stand-up guy in the world, and people are still going to nerf you. Given that there's no way to stop a bidder with <10 feedback from bidding on your items right at the end, you're going to get morons who don't understand the give-and-take of eBay and will roast you if their card takes more than 2 days to arrive, or for "excessive shipping" if you charge $2.50 to ship a $.99 card (I mean, it costs the same amount to ship a .99 card as it does a $99 card, after all).

I absolutely hate the new system. But then, everything about eBay ****s, so I am not surprised.

I wish Google would hurry up and get gBay online already.

Gee, god forbid eBay give buyers more information about the sellers they deal with. And the old system had the same problem with you getting "nerfed" by rookie buyers negging people.

In my opinion, it looks good, and provides a decent picture of the seller you are dealing with. I would say it's a good improvement to the site.

The only issues I have with the new system are the "shipping time" and "shipping charges" ratings.

Shipping Time
All we can control (as sellers) is the time it takes to get the package into the mail. We do not control anything that happens in between. If the postal service delays the package... or if you mail something around Mother's Day... or Tax time... then the package can surely take longer than expected. An uninformed (and antsy) buyer will complain and then whack you on this rating.

Shipping Charges
Yes, I agree that if you get charged $10 and the card shows up with a $0.37 stamp on it, then you deserve to get whacked on this rating. However, most uninformed buyers ONLY look at the postage. They don't take into consideration the packaging and "handling" to get the thing safely in the mail. Heck... nobody likes paying shipping/handling, so theoretically anyone could whack you for any shipping charge.

I'm from Canada, I have to deal with Canada Post. I can see MANY problems come from this. If I drop off the package into the post office I don't control the wait times. This is completely unfair to the seller. So I get good feedback when Canada Post is fast and bad when they are slow. Us Canadian sellers are screwed

That's not what they are doing though. They are giving you an expanded version of an already flawed system.

If you sell twenty items to one buyer, you ship the next day but the post office takes their time delivering (which happens all the time), you get nerfed for shipping time twenty times over. Unlike feedback, where a buyer can leave you twenty negs, but only one counts toward your feedback totals and percentages, if you sell twenty items to one buyer, he can nerf you to a factor of twenty on your shipping time as if it were one item each to twenty different buyers.

The expanded feedback adds nothing, and serves only to further punish eBay sellers.

And watch...they'll use this to justify a fee increase.

Its not just the Canadian sellers, those of us in the US also have to deal with it when we send things to Canada and Canada Post gets their hands on it there.

I just used it for some outstanding Feedback.

The seller charged me USD $8.00 S&H on a $0.99 item. Due to the fact that he had to ship to Canada.

I receive the bubble mailer.. $1.95 showing on the printed stamp... :( So needless to say, I checked the lowest rating for S & H. Plus he was on to me about remitting feedback and I responded with the over charging of S & H and he neglected to reply to that inquiry! ;)

So in this instance, it was a valuable tool. In regards to this:

Things that make you take a second thought? Although I can see that eventually coming to pass.

I too see a lot of people getting screwed by the system because some twit in Portales New Mexico or Klando Czech Republic has to wait more than 48 hours to get his card from Canada or had to pay 8 bucks for express post.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you're going to charge 8 bucks to ship something, you better darned well use an 8 dollar shipping method.

Just a disaster waiting to happen if you want my opinion.

I can just see it already - my feedback which is beyond excellent stars getting tarnished by what a few buyers percieve as slow shipment or overcharging for shipping. And it gives lazy sellers/buyers another reason NOT to leave feedback 'because it takes too long'. Sure you can still use the old system.... but you know that will disappear in a few months. Ebay does not duplicate any services for very long. They ease you into something and then make the old go away.

Guaranteed problems.

I'm already expecting to get whacked on shipping by an idiot who bought something from me last week. My listings clearly state that anything over $50 will require priority mail shipping with delivery confirmation.

This nitwit wins my auction and then tries to negotiate shipping charges with me. He wants me to send it first class without any confirmation and only pay me $2 for shipping.

I told him either pay what my auction clearly states or I'm filing a non-paying bidder alert. He reluctantly paid after whining again. I made sure to even add signature confirmation on this turd's package.

Guaranteed he whacks my rating for shipping charges.

I guess a 1457 perfect rating means nothing now.

As an Ebay seller, I like it a lot. It expands upon the previous feedback system and gives the buyer that much more information about the seller.

However, I would like to see an additional category added. Packaging! It seems like I'm always received packages where I have to throw away a card or two because they were damaged in the mail. Not serious enough to leave a negative for but still the same I would like to warn other buyers that a particular seller may ship fast but not package their cards properly.

Thanks,
Ron

I won an auction for $0.99, paid $3.50 for shipping.
Now I got lucky with this lot, but when they showed up in the mail, they were all loose. Luckily no damage, but it gave me a chance to show others what they might get.
I think he was ticked at the fact that I was the only bid on the lot, but it's a risk each person takes when listing.
Oh and in his description it stated that each card would be sleeved and top loaded.
This will allow us to grade on each part of the transaction rather then just give a negative and explain in 80 characters why we think they deserved it and it gives us more to explain.

Hi y'all!

Everybody has very valid points. I am a seller as well on eBay and believe that in the end it will only cause a few newbies to not bid on items. If I see excessive 'expanded' feedback left for the same problem with seller 'a' then I am not going to bid if I feel it will be a determining factor for an easy transaction.

Yes ebay is a frustrating entity at times but what are we to do. The powers that be never seem to get feedback from those who are users of the tool (their website and other services). The rich only get richer and the weaker to feed at the crumbs they drop.

Isn't it funny how most new buyers do not understand shipping & handling. Gawd, I should just make a word document to e-mail to poor ebayers who don't understand that every seller isn't a local store in their city. From preparation time for the auction to supplies. I take pride in a good looking and quality listing and that speaks for something. Our time as sellers is valuable to. I sure don't like spending 2 hours to list to see in the end half the auctions sell for only .99 or not at all. The least a person can do is understand that the majority of us are not trying to rip them off but it gets pretty hard to afford someone great deals all of the time if you gotta kick back some of the change into their pockets because they complain of "EXCESSIVE" shipping.

That felt good. :D
