I think Garcia is in a nice place for him to really have a great season.

Jones is great for the Jets as well, especially with Martin at the end of his career. I thought Leon was gonna get a chance to start, but I don't see him beating out Jones.
 
Eagles, WR Curtis agree to six-year deal

(March 15, 2007) -- Wide receiver Kevin Curtis agreed to a six-year contract with Philadelphia, giving the Eagles a potential replacement for Donte' Stallworth.

Curtis' deal could be worth up to $32 million and includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because terms of the contract weren't released.

"Kevin's a guy that we've liked all along," Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said. "He's got great speed and run-after-the-catch ability. Kevin's a calm, smart guy that just goes out and plays football. He definitely brings tremendous speed to our team."

A third-round pick in 2003, the 28-year-old Curtis spent his first four seasons with the St. Louis Rams serving mostly as the No. 3 wideout behind Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. He has 136 receptions for 1,714 yards and 12 touchdowns in 51 games. Curtis had his best season in 2005 when Bruce missed five games, catching 60 passes for 801 yards and six TDs.

"I've accepted my role and loved every minute of it in St. Louis and played with some great wideouts out there, but I'm definitely excited about the thought and the opportunity to be on the field more," Curtis said when he visited Philadelphia on March 9.

Minnesota, the New York Giants and Tennessee also were interested in Curtis, the second receiver to join the Eagles in free agency. Philadelphia also signed Bethel Johnson, a return specialist, last week. The defending NFC East champions lost Stallworth to the New England Patriots earlier this week.

Stallworth had 38 receptions for 725 yards and five TDs in 12 regular-season games in his only season with the Eagles. He also had six catches for 141 yards and two scores in two playoff games.

Curtis could compete with second-year pros Hank Baskett and Jason Avant to start opposite Reggie Brown.

"I'd like to be a starter, but I'm open to any opportunities that are out there," Curtis said. "Outcome: I want to be out on the field playing the whole game."

The Eagles also welcomed veteran running back Ron Dayne to Philadelphia on March 15. Dayne, who spent last season with the Houston Texans, would give the Eagles the complementary back they're seeking to go along with Brian Westbrook.

"I know Westbrook's the man right now," Dayne said. "I'll compete with him if I come here, just play hard and do what they ask -- whatever they need me to do."

Dayne had 612 yards rushing and five TDs while averaging 4.1 yards per carry for the Texans. A former first-round pick, the 29-year-old Dayne played five seasons with the Giants and one season in Denver..

Buccaneers pluck LB June from Super Bowl champ Colts

TAMPA, Fla. -- Free-agent linebacker Cato June signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The fifth-year pro spent his first four seasons with Indianapolis. He started 45 of 56 games he appeared in with the Colts and has 10 career interceptions. He made a team-high 162 tackles in 2006.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2003, June had five interceptions in 2005 and was picked to play in the Pro Bowl for the first time. He started all 20 games for the Super Bowl champions last season.

Broncos add QB Ramsey, cut DE Brown

DENVER (March 19, 2007) -- Quarterback Patrick Ramsey signed a contract to be the backup to Jay Cutler with the Denver Broncos.

The 28-year-old free agent was cut by the New York Jets this month.

The Broncos also released defensive end Courtney Brown, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2000 who has a history of knee troubles. Brown's latest injury came in training camp last year and he needed surgery that kept him out the entire season.

Ramsey replaces Jake Plummer, who lost his starting job in November and was traded to Tampa Bay this month, but has announced his retirement.

Ramsey, a first-round draft pick by Washington in 2002, started 24 games in four seasons for the Redskins, but threw only one pass for the Jets last season, his only year in New York. He was released by the Jets on March 2.

He has 34 touchdown passes and 29 interceptions and a career passer rating of 74.9. He's 10-14 as a starter.

Brown signed as a free agent with Denver two years ago. In 2005, he had 38 tackles and two sacks.

The Denver Broncos reached agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Brandon Stokley. The 30-year-old Stokley also visited the New Orleans Saints but opted for the Broncos. Stokley is coming off a torn achilles, but he is expected to be ready for training camp.

The Houston Texans reached agreement with free-agent linebacker Shawn Barber on a three-year, $5 million deal that includes $2.2 million in guaranteed money.

(March 21, 2007) -- A trade that has been speculated on for over a year is now completed.

By day's end, the Atlanta Falcons will trade backup quarterback Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans, according to NFL sources. The Texans will surrender a second-round draft pick, and there could be other compensation involved.

The trade has massive ramifications. The Texans have their quarterback of the future, which David Carr no longer is. The Falcons are reaffirming their faith in Michael Vick, who now also needs a new backup. And the Texans are out of the Brady Quinn derby, leaving the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins as possible landing spots.

The trade, once officially completed, validates the Falcons' commitment to Vick, whom new Atlanta head coach Bobby Petrino told the first time they met, "You're my guy."

Since then, Petrino and Vick have been working together closely on an almost daily basis, prepping for the coming season.

The Falcons, who quietly had been entertaining offers for Schaub this offseason, had tendered their backup quarterback a $2 million offer, meaning that any team that signed him to an offer sheet would have to surrender first- and third-round draft choices to the Falcons. Of course, the Falcons also could always trade Schaub, and that is the course of action the team has pursued.

The Texans will be acquiring a quarterback that has thrown only 161 career passes, 81 of which were completed, with six touchdown passes and six interceptions. But Schaub long has been considered a quarterback worthy of starting, and he was the top bargaining chip the Falcons have.

Now they've decided to cash it in.

I think this is a good move. Schaub was never gonna play in Atlanta. Vick is an enigma and they weren't going to bench him. And besides, Schaub can't be any worse than Carr :rolleyes:

Never? What if Vick went down? What if the Falcons were losing or Vick was playing awful? It has been speculated that Schaub could be a viable option as a starting QB, and I think if Vick had another bad year, they'd look to see what Schaub can do.

If Shaub was that good, he'd already been playing. Vick had some awful games and still continued to start. Go figure!
