New In The Game Survey

I voted for 2002, the year of Canada's double Olympic gold. This was THE height of Canadian hockey dominance and I'd love to see a set featuring that moment in time

This is a very legitimate issue. From the "Did you know..." pile:

The salary floor from 2008-09 is already higher than the salary cap of 2005-06.

I don't want to hijack the thread with a side discussion, but while the absence of a season created a salary cap, the impact is already lost.

Which was where I was going to go, but I'm lazy. ;) 04-05 changed nothing.

And Scott, I agree with you on 2002, that's the '72 for folks like myself, who were born after the Summit Series.

But vintage trumps it for me.

I voted for 66-67, mostly for selfish reasons. It's the last year for the Original 6 and the year of the Leafs last Cup...I can only imagine what a set based on that season could look like!

A question for Dr. Price: is this going to be a readily accessible set for all collectors a la H&P or another high-end release in the tradition of Superlative? Or is that still to be determined?

That's a very good point! It makes a ton of sense: if a collector is being asked to spend the big $$$ it's nice if they have a little bit of input into what they'll be buying.

While my reasoning was partly due to the institution of the Salary Cap (regardless of what they now sit at), a lot of my decision also was based on the changes to how the game was played.

From this season we got changes to the dynamics of the rink, the institution of the shootout, the trapezoid for goalies behind the next and other area. While they came into effect for the 05-06 season (and certainly, 05-06 should be another major write-in candidate IMO), the rules went through experimentation in 04-05 in the AHL.

Plus, for the first time in a long time, you had bona fide NHL frontliners literally playing across the world, be it in the A, Sweden or Russia. At least in my eyes, this played a big part in leagues like the KHL being able to sign away superstars from the NHL, and that they didn't just have to deal with castaways.

Dr. Price, if I may, I would be very interested to hear a bit more about how the years officially on the ballot were selected, if you're able to share some of that.

I also ended up going with 1980. I would love to see ITG's take on the Miracle on Ice. Second runner up though was '67.

It's nice to know there is a company out there that respects us by asking our opinion. Thank you Dr. Price! Looking forward to all of ITG's upcoming releases.

I did a write in... I think mine will be the only vote for the event.

2008 - Capitals make impressive run for the playoffs

I'm young, that's my favorite all time. lol

It's an interesting idea for sure, every curious to see hope well it works.

New In The Game Survey

In The Game has been an innovator in the hockey trading card industry since it’s inception in 1998. Now ITG unveils another hobby first.

Collectors can now vote for their choice for a new ITG product.

Collectors can vote for the most significant year in hockey history. The voting will be open until February 15th at which time the winning year will be announced. On March 1st, ITG will announce a new product based on collectors’ votes. “Let’s face it, as a manufacturer we try to make products that collectors will want to collect, so why guess?" said ITG President, Dr. Brian H. Price, “we might as well let collectors participate in choosing what products we make, this is just the first of many.”

Here are the eight choices for the most significant year in hockey history:
1. 1942 - Original Six era begins and Rocket Richard makes NHL debut;
2. 1960 - Fifth Stanley Cup in a row for Canadiens and Rocket Richard retires;
3. 1967 - Last year of Original Six and last Leaf Stanley Cup victory;
4. 1968 - NHL expansion to 12 teams;
5. 1972 - formation of the WHA and Canada wins Summit Series;
6. 1979 - WHA folds and NHL amalgamates 4 teams;
7. 1980 - Miracle on Ice;
8. 2002 - Canadian Men’s Gold Metal victory in Olympics.

Make your vote count at www.itgtradingcards.com/poll/

You can also send ITG an email if you have another year you feel is more significant than the eight above. This is your chance to get involved in the creation of a hockey card product. ITG listens.

I'm curious about one aspect also. Will this be a "basic", one-off set, or would this be a multiple series release, akin to Franchises?

HI Board Members:

I just want everyone to know that the votes will be tabulated based on unique voters, so if you vote 20 times for one particular year, it will only count as 1 vote.

I believe this is the fair way to determine the most significant year rather than let any individual "stuff the ballot box".

I hope you all agree.

Brian

Dr Price,
Im very glad to hear that this is the way the votes will be counted. It is much more fair. Kudos to you and ITG for doing this for hockey fans.

My vote goes to The Miracle on Ice.
Daniel

1968 - expansion.

I remember how exciting it was to see the new teams.

Keon ruled in 67 but bias' aside, 68 was the start of bigger and better days.
