Just a little FYI for all the paypal users. If you do your mail strictly from the paypal notification emails you may want to reconsider (at least on larger purchases). The email may show you as being "eligible" for Paypal Seller Protection HOWEVER - between the time the email is sent and payment is actually processed (when the email is sent to you payment has not actually been processed - just initiated) paypal now runs the transaction through a risk-model assessment and may deem the transaction as ineligible for coverage. The only way you'll know is by viewing the details for the transaction in your account, which will be changed to ineligible. In my case it changed nearly 48 hours after the email was received.

The Manager that I spoke with indicated that the payment is reviewed (by a computer program) for :

A - Form of Payment (many credit card transactions are now being called too risky to cover)

B - Type of item (collectibles have been targeted as risky)

C - Actual Method of Payment (payments made through mobile devices are getting flagged as well) This was the case with the item in question for me - the buyer logged into paypal from his Crackberry instead of from his home IP and was flagged because of it. Luckily I talked to the fella the other day and all is fine after payment was refunded and sent again from his home.

D - Physical Address (many PO box addresses are also being flagged for what I was told was potential damage issues)

Bottom line - don't trust the paypal notification email.

As a seller, I've never really had to try to collect from Paypal due to an issue (a few times as a buyer). How easy or hard is it to collect on an eBayer that is trying to get the item, and get back the money at the same time? The way they favor the buyer in almost all disputes, I would be surprised if they did anything much for sellers. Anybody got any stories?

Thanks man! I've used my BlackBerry a couple of times to make payments and didn't have an issue. Maybe that was before someone figured out how to abuse it :o

(knocks on head) no more BB payments...

I do. I sold a playstation 3 game on paypal. I actually got my money and it is IN my paypal account. I got the Email and the whole 9 yards. Two days later, I see that the payment was gone for no apparent reason. I called paypal and they said that, the buyer had a Bank account and a debit card signed up with them. They processed the payment. But the buyer closed his bank account making this two forms of payment (bank account and Debit card) useless. And they took the money from me!!!!!!!

what happens if you shot the funds out to your bank account already? will paypal penalize the seller who should have the funds rather than the buyer who obviously tried to rip someone off?

If they haven't yet cleared paypal simply stops the transfer. If they have cleared I'm not sure.
