New USPS shipping fees starting Jan 27th, what will you do?

Dear Americans,

Some of us Canadians feel your pain and have got US PO boxes for this (and other) reasons. Please allow us as bidders - we're good people.

[Also, have your Canadian shipping cost listed as $whatever price you want, but don't just ban all Canadians - as sometimes I can't bid if you ban Canadians despite me having an US mailing address set up through eBay/Paypal]

[[this only holds true occasionally, sometimes I *CAN* bid on US only auctions and other times I can't.]]

Love,

Canadians who live close to the border

Yeah, I don't see what all the b****in' is about - the rules are the rules. I will never send something in a PWE. Period. End of discussion. I will always ship in bubble mailers, and my ebay customers know that. I will put the shipping prices where they need to be, and let the foreign buyers decide if they want to pay it or not. It certainly hurts the wallet for foreign buyers, but if they still want the card bad enough, I'll still ship it.....

Plus, the new $6+ packages to Canada come with "e-delcon" (electronic delivery confirmation)....should minimize "lost item" cases for international buyers and sellers.

I don't have an issue with continuing to ship overseas, I just updated my shipping rates, I will probably drop the US shipping back down to 3$ as I found that in using the paypal shipping it only went up .05 for up to 3 oz's. Thats one thing that was frustrating no real way to know what the price increase was going to be as the prices they were showing before and after were not the prices i was paying when you create your own shipping label online.

Canada and world wide i still need to figure out my exact costs.
As gotta see what Ebay will be charging in extra fees, they don't actually have the fees on my Exact shipping charges to Canada they base those fees off of my standard shipping to the US.

Looks like I probably will be lowering my rates a little bit, and for Canada and overseas it's just if you want the cards, will have to pay the shipping rates.

Alot of these ways to get around the new postal rates just seem like alot of extra work on my side and well, I just don't see the benifit to it.

Over at the comic book side of the world it's around $30 to ship CGC books to and from Canada/U.S. So yup, $30 to ship 1 CGC comic.

So yeah... it could be a lot worse fellas.

To be clear... My Biatchin was based upon my having to give up casebreaking of Hockey cases for the low to mid tier products. I cannot see most International bidders willing to pay $6-8 shipping for a $2-3 card.... I rip Baseball and Football cases too so I can fill the void pretty easily. Sadly, Hockey was my favorite rip, because it's my favorite sport and the focus of my personal collection. For Hockey inventory and high end, this really isn't as big an issue.

I agree that the costs are the costs. There's not much we can do there. What is the most frustrating for me is the inconsistency in how the rules are applied from post office to post office. Between here and other forums, I've seen so many different experiences with how a bubble mailer can now be used and priced I can't tell what what will be commonly accepted. If different employees at the same office can't agree, we're in trouble.

today i sent 2 000 size bubble mailers out with 1 card in a magnetic 1 touch..both just autos .. the first to Canada was $6.55 and the second to Moscow was 14.90...buh bye sellin and tradin abroad..Sniff sniff....

So far so...ok with my shipping charges. Offering free shipping for additional cards seems to be helping, I messaged a buyer after he bought a few cards to make sure he saw the free shipping part, and he proceeded to add 4 or 5 more cards to take advantage of it. I think for low end sellers like myself, it's almost the only way to even hope / bother with international any more; that buyers will pluck 10-20 cards to make it worthwhile.

This isn't about comic books.

Of course there can always be worse (just like there's worse than comic books). Bringing up a trivial fact about something which is unrelated to the discussion at hand adds nothing.

I live in Sweden and I'm willing to pay those additional dollars to keep up with my collection.

Often when I buy cards I pay around 4-5$ anyway. So I don't consider this so brutal as many seem to do. You have to think about how much it would have cost me to break boxes to find some cards or even worse transport over the atlantic ocean! I think many of my european collectors tend to agree with me.

Of course it's a high raise but still.. I think sellers might loose a couple of small buyers but it could have been worse.

Really?!

I appreciated Ernie's point. It helps put things in context. Your jab however had nothing to do with topic at hand.

My eBay sales are slowing drown from what it seems on the Canadian side of things. I have listed over 100 auctions this week and only 3 or 4 of them have been Canadian offers. Also when I do have have been accepting/declining their offer meaning that if the buyer offered me $12 for a card I counter with $12.01 and then in the special notes/instructions letting them know of the new shipping cost. When doing that I have only had one buyer still commit to a card from up north.

Just did a favor for a fellow HI member from a eBay seller that wouldn't ship to Finland. Packaged up a patch card and a deck of cards which was 5 ounces and it was $12.75!! All I can say is wow! I am sorry to the HI member as that is ridiculous!

The only thing that makes a lot of sense now is buying in bulk. I'm a 90's shinny collector..so there is no point to me buying single Hasek or Lafontaine inserts, but if I can find 4 or more items from the seller I want I can deal with it that way.

I just shipped a 6 oz bubble mailer to AZ for $2.75 but if I shipped something a third of that weight a quarter of the distance to Ontario it would be $6.15. Go figure

Makes me sick.

Someone commented that Canada's rates are way better, while they are cheaper, they are still far too much and are only getting worse. Sending a single card to Sweden cost me nearly $5. Again, not as extreme as USPS, but still a major deterrent to shipping internationally, which is a major pain considering that's where most of my buyers are.

USPS rates to CAN go up?

What is the rate of the USPS to ship a card to Canada? I use auctane shipping manager and it tells me that I must pay 7.70 now. Is this correct? I thought they just raised it to just over 6 bucks. Did they raise it again?
