Puckdaddy has the voting listed out. I think I nailed all of them but the Hart, had Ovy winning that one too. Hart was pretty close:

Had Bryz and Miller not taken so many first place votes, Ovy could've been MVP or Henrik could've blown it out. Can't believe 13 members of the media had Ovy as 5th on their Hart ballot...really baffles me.

This is what irritates me when the media votes...so many damn homers. Stastny gets a 5th place vote for Hart?! Craig Anderson gets a 1st place vote? Gonchar gets a 2nd place Norris vote?! Phaneuf got a Norris vote?

Look how close the Selke trophy votes were, then look at all the wasted votes. Grier, Steen and Dubinsky a 2nd place vote? Ovechkin got a 1st place vote...for the Selke?!

I was about to say that the Selke numbers looked close as heck. You'd have thought that it would give the awards much more meaning to allow free votes across the board at first (which is the way I suspect it is now), narrow them down to the top three, and vote again. The drawback would perhaps be the fact that those who voted stupid in the first round, would probably vote stupid in the second round too I guess.

Congrats to Hank - I'm surprised to see so many people saying he had a true MVP season. I always thought he deserved to win once the regular season closed but it's nice to see I wasn't just seeing it though rose tinted glasses.

Just saw the voting results. Here is a LINK. Was surprised to see the number of 1st votes Howard for the Calder. Also some of the voting clearly shows they need to revamp the voting a little. Some of the results make me wonder if some of the voters even watch the NHL.

What is it about the votes for Howard that bother you????

Is it that he is older.... (26) ????

Or do you feel that his statistics (forgetting about his age) are sub-par????

If it is the former - so do you feel that the voters should disregard the rules as they apply to age???

If it is the latter - explain to me what part of his statistics you feel are unworthy.

I'm not saying that this applies to jester but in general it does seem to be more about his age than anything. It's not really fair to older RCs but there does seem to be a general preference for a first season RC than a guy who's been back and forth for a few years but is still eligible. At the end of the day I doubt Howard is losing any sleep over it after the season he had.

First off take a breath. That a whole lot of ???? you through out there.

Second I am a Wings fan and lived about a half hour from the Joe until I moved to Indiana 5 years ago. With that being said there has always been a knock against Red Wings rookies for playing for the Wings. If they are D or G they are always said to just be a product of the system. That is why I was surprised Howard was able to get as many 1st place votes as he did.

Third I do feel there should be a later age for Goalies for the Calder. It usually takes goalies longer than other players to develop. It should be taken into consideration.

Forth I never said it bothered me that Howard got the votes. I said I was surprised. I was surprised when my buddy brought me back some beer from Texas that they only have down there. I didnt know it ment I was bothered by it.

Last I was referring to a lot of the voting being off the mark not the Calder trophy. If you read what I wrote instead of jumping on seeing the name of Howard you would have seen I wrote - "Some of the results make me wonder if some of the voters even watch the NHL." Meaning more than age and stats matter in voting for all awards. Players bring more to the table than just numbers on paper. They need people who watch hundreds of games a year to vote on awards. Not just people who write about big stories and watching highlight tapes for voting.

Steen i dont think was a wasted vote he had a really good year. Now does he deserve to win it? definitely not. He was voted mvp of the blues, the blues best forward, biggest surprise of the blues and was second in unsung hero voting. He scored a career high 24 goals and played on the third line as a shut down forward. At the end of games he was always on the ice. Also after he came back from injury he had 43 points in his last 45 games. I think a second place vote may have been a little high but 2-3 4th-5th place votes may have been warranted.

Duchene should have won the Calder. I think he was more valuable to his team this year than Meyers. He stepped right into a bad situation on the Avs team and started for business. I think he will prove every Meyer's voter wrong later.

I can understand why Myers won as he was very good this year. Though if you do think about it he did have the Vezina winner backing him up so I do see your point. If you think about it though the Wings went through all of their injuries and were getting outshot most games almost 2 to 1 and Howard was there for them. Hence why he got nominated and came in second. I personally don't think he should have won but I did think he merited second. Duchene was the early leader but like most rookies tailed off a bit the second half and the media jumped on the Myers bandwagon.
Also the calder winner isn't always the better player down the road look at Barret Jackman winning the calder and Zetterberg coming in second. I'm sure most would take Hank today over Jackman.

The only thing is that its got nothing to the being valuable to your team. This is what the calder is given for: The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League. I personally wanted Duchene to win because i have some of his cards but look at the stats.

Myers 82 11 37 48 32 +13

Duchene 81 24 31 55 16 +1

Myers had seven less points and is a defenseman. He also had a much higher +/-. They were both proficient but imo Myers (being a defenseman) has more impressive numbers.
