No Joke....I have been robbed

Dean-
hopefully somethings start showing up,prayers my firend....
As my uncle used to say to be"Don't let the bas tards get you down"--in Latin he say it though

Gotta keep this alive.

Thanks Ron but will admit it's hard to even think of collecting again. I'll still help out a few buddies locally if I can but the rest of my PC will be coming out over the next little while. It Looks more and more like my own collecting is done

Keeping it alive. Still no word but the insurance end is done and it wasn't pretty.

Can you let us know how the insurance part went for those of us that have our collections insured? How did they go about values? Obviously from your comments they weren't fair but care to elaborate?

Keeping this alive

For those who are interested in the insurance aspect here's what I learned. Remember insurance companies are a business and any way to cut what they are giving out in claims, they will do it.

House insurance will only cover so much as most people would be shocked at the breakdown of their insurance and that's totally fine with the company.Only till a claim is made is when most finally ask questions and then is it too late. It's a way for insurance companies to save money so really, they don't volunteer anything unless you ask all questions. The many stories I've heard is unbelievable so guys check your policy and make sure everything is covered. Be in the know

Values... Honestly, I had the numbers crunched on what was stolen,my insurance company wanted receipts. A case could have been made for eBay final sales but really they were ready to question anything to save money. What I got back from my claim didn't warrant to persue this. Every company is different but that's my expirence

The only thing I can say is dealing with insurance is a nightmare. If you want protection for your cards.... Get an alarm, safe or 2 and bolt that sucker tight. Leave nothing around!!! You want your cards insured, get in touch with your insurance and get them to agree on the value of your collection with scans and get everything in writing from them that they approve the amount,no exceptions. It's a pile of work so be prepared for it... It's a hassle no question with all that grey area

The insurance thing is now behind me and now on to focusing on a recovery of some cards and with everyone's help, something is recovered

Thanks guys
Dean

Late reading this post and I feel sick. My heart goes out to you Dean, and I'm hoping that with the support of the HI community, someone gets a lead, they catch the culprit and you get your cards back. Take care.

Best wishes,
Adrian

Unbelievable man, so sorry to hear this. Such a beautiful collect, I hope you get them all back. Any Updates? Have any of your cards surfaced? I am also from the St. John's region original, and know how tuff it is to get into the hobby with such limited means of getting cards. Which may actually be a benefit for you, not having many places to sell in bulk down there, means the thief will probably turn online, where by the looks of things you will have lots of eyes. I will keep mine opened for you, Good luck man, I know how devasted I would be and my collection is not even a quarter the value and beauty of yours. Truly sorry for you.

Insurance company interations are F-ing painful. We lost just over $40K in our break in however I learned my insurance was not value, it was what we paid for it - so no big deal... right? Wrong....

What I learned very quick was to say "NO". We are giving you this (not we will give you - we are"... No way. they they said they would one and only time move that number up... nope... after the 4th one time only movement, I got near what I paid because my alarm was old, did not function right, the lights were not perfect, everything I did wrong... It is a wonder I did not pay them.... Lucking, the adjusted screwed up and made a comparison to me and his buddies who over inflate values... he must of forgot we were not talking values, we were talking paid prices (My computer was also stolen so my records were gone) so I was placing the values at 25% of BV on items I did not have... other lucky thing - they record their phone calls. when I called him on it - things started going a bit more my way...

say NO - they will screw up sooner or later. They make the victim a victim again and again,

I think the biggest thing we all can learn from what happened to you with the insurance company is this: When dealing with insurance companies, always ask questions at the start and get it in writing. As you said, insurance companies are in business to make money, so it is your responsibility to ask questions up front to ensure you are getting what you think you are getting.

Still feel so bad for everything that happened, not just with the theft, but the hassle you had with your insurance company.

Guys, now more than ever... Those in the St John's region, Newfoundland and rest of Canada, please keep an eye out for these cards. They will surface and it could even be the case that some items have got into collectors hands not knowing the history of them. This story will play itself out.

Paypal receipts are something but Beckett guides and " What you say you paid" is no good. I really wish this on no one and it has been a huge lesson here and hopefully someone on the site gets knowledge of proper protection of their collection.

Keep your eyes peeled and anyone sees anything, let me know

In regards to insurance, I spoke to someone who has dealt with a lot of claims and they explained it like this. You need to let your insurance company know what you want insured so they can adjust their claim appropriately. If you tell them you have 20k in cards then they will adjust your premium and if something happens, the claims process can be carried out. It's very difficult to claim something that they never knew about.

Dean, I will have another look over the cards and keep an eye out.

Stolen in a relatively small market (on an island) where you know all the dealers, shop owners and most big collectors you would think they would show up somewhere. With so many highend items with serial numbers on most you would think they would show up. Sooner or later these will start to trickle out unless they went straight into someone collection. If it was just someone breaking in to make a quick buck you would think they would have tried to move them by now. Even online these will standout.

Puttin this up.... Collectors on the Avalon,Island and collectors online. Please keep an eye out for anyone selling these. If you question anyone selling anything similar, let me know. These will Show up

Thanks guys

Dean,

They caught those guys who stole all the coins during the storm and they were linked to another collectable heist. Is there any chance they were involved with your ordeal?

These guys were apparently sending the loot to Nova Scotia, maritimers should keep an eye out. Maybe contact some of the shops down there, D&M sports stands out.
