No longer buying UD boxes

At some point someone at UD needs to get away from the Covid excuse and clean up their act. Solving issues before they become issues. Not dumping a ton of money and resources into making things right and instead just getting them right from the onset. UD hasn’t lowered their prices in response to poor quality or lowering hit frequency in traditional sets.

This is pretty brutal. Sorry to read this thread and see the replacements you got. That's definitely a rough one. Sorry Benny! I hope they'll make it right by you.

I am glad people are finally speaking up about how terrible UD has been with their recent products. The one thing a manufacturer has to do when sending out a product for consumption is provide what the the consumer expects. So, when a box of SPA has nothing in it, imagine getting, I don't know a box of Timbits with no donuts? It's the same sort of radical thing. What would the tim's employee give u? Probably a new box of timbits. So, why doesn't UD give a new box of SPA for their enormous blunder? Do they expect all of their conusmers to buy cases so the number of autos evens out? Absolutely terrible!! This case is different b/c u explained your frustration and they still didn't get it. Come on man! The nonsense going on with Topps is even worse which just baffles my mind to where the hobby is going. The manufacturers don't care anymore.

Remember, their lawyers covered them with two simple words; ON AVERAGE. :|

Sad story. Also upper deck Ultimate is getting worse and worse. I will also Not take part in group breaks anymore. No content for that amount of money and e-pack in addition (where the hits are??)

Sorry for experience over all!

UD gives precedence to certain cards. They simply do not care about 98% of the complaints they get because it is not a priority so they just give you anything to shut you up and 'make it right'.

My cousin bought an 07-08 Upper Deck Sweet Shot in.. around 2012. He pulled a redemption of Crosby which was well past it's due date. I had no idea until a few months ago than he never tried to redeem it, so he tried just last year. It was marked as a priority and they sent him a replacement Crosby card from 14-15 which he got graded and is now worth $4,500.

Since the amount of 'Hits' are not guaranteed they simply do not care. They will replace the missing cards, but they are not obligated to, so they give you whatever is floating around in their 'vault'.

If you pulled a damaged Stamkos card they will try to replace it with a similar value Stamkos card. If you have an expired Crosby redemption they will try to honour it with a similar value Crosby.

If you put $1,000 into a slot machine which pays out 96.5% but you drop down to $0 because the your luck is crap do you think you get money back or a consolation prize? Nope.

You can complain all you like. I think we should all complain everytime we waste money on Upper Deck crap, but really if you do not like the gamble just go back to buying singles.

Some cards/issues are just more important than others.

UD honouring expired redemptions is news to me. Is your cousin the Prime Minister?

Why isn't anyone from UD chiming in here?

And yes, I already know the answer why. As someone stated before, and I can see on several different platforms, they lost a good one when Chris Carlin walked away.

That is the biggest cop out i've ever heard. I know for sure if I was running a company I would be totally embarassed by sending out a product with literally zero consumer value whatsoever. Then replacing it with pennies on the dollar. Come on man!

I 100% agree...if we don't like the garbage that comes out of Upper Deck products and the lack of consistency their products produce ("on average" type of jargon), then why do we continue ripping their boxes. I won't tell anyone how much I spent on UD products last year...but it was VERY HIGH volume...well for me anyway! This year, I've dropped about 75% from the previous year. I haven't stopped completely, but it's definitely getting close. I enjoy buying lots...started grading a bit...finding other aspects of the business that I like more than wasting thousands of dollars on nonsense!

A lot of people have stopped. I went from collecting S1/S2, Ice, BD, SPA, OPCP and Synergy to now just buying S1/S2...and I only buy boxes on release day or at release day prices. As soon as retailers start hiking up the price, I'm out, and just buy singles. I've also completely left groups breaks.

You know it's bad when even retail is selling stuff at hobby prices and the product offers less than it usually does. Ya, makes sense. Even Tim's cards seems watered down and this years product looks pretty much the same as last years. I'm done after 3 packs!

The thrill of something new is enough for some to ignore the litany of issues. I've been told verbatim, "yeah, I know there are a lot of issues but at least it's something new." We're addicts and a new fix is enough for some, no matter how hard of a boot to the junk comes with it.

I really ENJOYed the comments and I am NOW relieved that I NOT the only ONE.

Anyone want base? Got rid of most of it, recycle process.
Simply reason to stop spending / breaking case loads of UD products searching for that BIG HIT!
After ripping multiple cases of 2017/18 SPA with single cases of UD Ultimate, UD Premier and 2017/18 The CUP. $$$$$s where better $pent in buying singles, PERIOD!
It's worked very well after passing up on 2018/19 SPA and last The Cup release, NO regrets.
ONLY 2021/22 UD product I opened was UD1 (6 boxes) UD2 (ONE case / 15 boxes) AND ONE box of UD Extended.
Conclusion, BE PATIENT and be selective with what YOU WANT, it's out there!

UD made a raffle for expired redemptions a few years ago. I don't know if they still do it.

A few years ago I hit literally my mic drop card, or redemption rather, or expired redemption rather; 11/12 Cup Limited Logos Gretzky which was a SSP #/10 AND Oilers memorabilia. The LCS guy asked me when I was leaving what would be the card that would get me to retire from breaking. I told him a low-numbered Gretzky patch/auto with Oilers memorabilia, like a Cup Foundations, would do it. Imagine my reaction when I hit that redemption....that was expired.

Long story short I reached out to UD begging and pleading my case, somehow hoping for a miracle that they'd still have the card. I was told no such luck, but that I could send it in for the raffle and would receive "a card of comparable value" in replacement.

Comparable value for a jumbo oilers patch/auto /10 was a Gretz/Lanny unnumbered Ultimate Sigs that I don't think fetched $150 when I sold it. That still tears at me at times as that's a literal dream card for me. I've seen 2 copies of that card sell, one went for over $10K after the Covid boom, I don't think the Gretz/Lanny is "comparable" but that's just me. It's not so much the money, as I likely would have been buried with that card, as the disappointment in not being able to see that card in my collection. I would have probably tailgated at my mailbox, grilling steaks, in anticipation of that mailday.

I have always hated redemptions, particularly the "out" it seems to give a manufacturer from possibly never even producing certain cards, using up memorabilia, etc but this really drove me off the bridge having this happen.

Outch, that hurts. I never pulled a 4 digits card. At least, you got a dual hard-signed auto with Gretzky on it, but that's far from what the redemption was for.

I will sound like an old fart, but 20 years ago, everything was hard-signed and there were very little redemptions.
