NYC....anywhere I should go?

Making my annual trip down to NYC to visit family and friends this coming Thanksgiving....

When I was down in the past, I rarely thought about going to hobby stores and such, but I think this time I will have an afternoon to myself and want to visit some hobby shops. Please recommend!

Also, going to see the Rangers vs TB on Dec1st....pretty excited to be going to MSG for the first time! Anything I should keep in mind?
 
There are a couple of hobby shops in Manhattan

- Chameleon Comics and Cards
- Alex MVP Cards

The former is one that I have gone to for over 15 years since I was a kid because I live close by. However I have been steadily decreasing in attendance due to the lack of hockey they carry (can't really blame them). They do have a nice section of gaming cards as well as comics. Great silver age readers at decent prices in my opinion. In fact over time, ive been going there for that rather than sports cards.

The latter is one that I have only been to 2-3 times in my entire life spanning through many years. I wish I could give you more personal information about this place, but I can't. Im very sure other NY'ers will weigh in on this place as with other boroughs as well.

There are however a good span of comic book shops in NYC if your intersts extend there.

if you're out on Long Island, hit up Doc D's Trading Cards in Bellmore. His prices are hard to beat but he does move hockey products pretty quick.
 
Looks like someone beat me to asking this question as I found out that I will be moving to Long Island. It just sucks because the place that I will be staying is about 15 min from where the Islanders play and only have this year to enjoy games there.

Its good to know that there are places out on the Island so that i can get my hockey card fix and dont have to rely on Walmart or Target. My other option was to wait till I come home from time to time and see Matt at Breakaway

Ah rats. I was just there and was very close to that shop. I am bookmarking this for later..

on a side now there is nothing in Manhattan.. I know bec I was there for three days and found zip for hobby shops..

Absolutely not true - this is in Manhattan!



I was there a few weeks back and literally had to jog out and back to the Ghostbusters Firehouse between finishing for the day and getting a cab to the airport.

OK OK it's not a card shop, but it is pretty damn sweet!

what the hell. I totally didn't think of trying to visit that site. oh well. looks like i will be making day trips to NYC more often for work. I will try to steal a few looksee's of a few famous places in NYC.
 
This effer photobombed me but my wife and I did a mini Seinfeld tour while we were there a few years back...we ate there too and the food is pretty good!



You also have to check out Mid Town Comics in Times Square. UNBELIEVABLE store.
 
Chameleon Comics near the Wall street is your best bet. They have a small selection of hockey singles (low- and mid-level) and fresh wax boxes priced around +10% compared to blowout and steelcity. The manager Fred is also quite knowledgeable about hockey.

If you are looking only for wax, I would recommend East coast connection in Lyndhurst, New Jersey (around 30min by train from Midtown). Their prices on fresh wax are lower than at blowout, steelcity etc. Prices on the old wax are less competitive, but they have a lot of boxes hard to find elsewhere. Also their website is not very accurate, so it is best to call. There are essentially no hockey singles there. The owner Mike is very nice and will give you some great deals on the combined purchases.
 
Wish I had known about some shops when I was there last summer.
