hey i was wondering if someone could help me with this, i just baught a o pee chee buy back auto for a awesome price that i could not pass up on, so here is my question.

on the back of the card is states that you just recieved a previousely released autographed o pee chee collectors card. is it just me or does it sound like the card was perviousely owned by someone els? and we all know that we as collectors have different ways of looking after our cards, and if someone els had this card it stand a chance that the card may not be in very good shape.

if you can help me understand this please feel free to fill me in on what im missing here.

Pretty sure it was owned by someone else but when UD does the whole "buyback" thing I believe they look for the best cards to buy.

It is likely extra stock they had kicking around. I can't see them putting the effort into actually buying cards back from customers ... too much time and an added expense to the company.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they do buy them back thus the term "buyback". I don't believe UD would have O-Pee-Chee products from the 80's/90's.

Right ... I was thinking of the 07/08 Auto'd OPC Rookie Cards that were inserted in some 08/09 packs. But of course they would not have the older cards in stock from 70s or 80s ...

The older ones were likely "bought back" from collectors. The non-auto'd ones I pulled from last years OPC were mostly in good shape. I think UD might have actually taken care to insert cards in decent shape.

If the card is an early release OPC, then yes it was bought on the secondary market, although I believe the 89-90 OPC cards were purchased as a vendor case. I believe UD had a rep at a few of the Expos picking these pieces up. That being said, the quality of the singles that they've picked up has been impressive. I had a Perrault OPC Buyback from the late 70's, and it was in unbelievable shape.

Karvin was buying up old OPC cards at the Toronto Fall Expo last year. He bought over 100 off one guy right in front of me. And I will add that he was picky with the cards he picked up.

As for the 07-08's, IMO they have no business being in the 08-09 product. Who wants a Rich Peverley anyway (by the way, if you do, let me know....its the only buy-back I pulled hehe).

here is a scan of the card, can someone tell me what year it's from? i got this macinnis bb auto and a macinnis for a wicked price.if you know a rough value of what they go for lmk.

wow i remember the days when that was as high end as they came. Still one of my favorite sets of all time 1990-91 opc premier. Awesome looking card too & if you're interested in moving it i'm sure big tall might be interested :)

agreed. Having said that when they have a Drew MIller buyback rookie card from last year's product then they probably had stock on hand. Can't see them going through the trouble for a $0.25 cent card.
