Canadiens sign Ryder to one-year deal

The Montreal Canadiens and right-winger Michael Ryder avoided arbitration by agreeing to a US$2.95-million, one-year contract Sunday.

Ryder's hearing was set for Monday in Toronto. He made US$2.2 million last season.

The Canadiens now have all their players under contract for 2007-08.
 
Sabres sign Paetsch to 3-year contract

The Buffalo Sabres announced Tuesday that the team have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with restricted free agent defenseman Nathan Paetsch, who was scheduled for NHL arbitration Thursday.

Paetsch, 24, played in 63 games as a rookie with the Sabres last season, finishing with 24 points.
 
Devils have re-signed forward Zach Parise to a new multi-year contract.

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Zach Parise to a new multi-year contract. No further terms of the deal were disclosed.

The Minneapolis native didn't miss a beat in the postseason, recording career highs in goals (7), assists (3), and points (10) in 11 playoff contests.

New Jersey's 1st-round selection, 17th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft, Parise posted 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in his rookie season of 2005-06

TSN is reporting a four-year, $12.5-million contract.

That's just over $3 million a year. Where was Kevin Lowe on this one? Parise is far better than Penner will ever be, yet he is going to make less for the next four years. Scratching my head on that one. I have a feeling Lowe will be out of a job come next year.

Panthers have agreed to terms with Stephen Weiss

Panthers have agreed to terms with Stephen Weiss on a 6-year, $18.6 million contract. The deal will pay Weiss $3.1 million per year.

''Stephen is an important part of our core nucleus of offensive talent and we are pleased to have reached a long-term agreement with him,'' said Florida general manager and head coach Jacques Martin. ''He posted career-best numbers last season and we look forward to his continued production and contributions to our organization.''
 
Leafs sign Salmelainen to two-way deal

Salmelainen, acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in June for forward Sergei Samsonov, became an unrestricted free agent after the club bought out his contract.

The Finnish forward scored six goals and 17 points in 57 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season.


Might be a good addition to the farm...
