after 8 years, i'm glad hes gone, we need a new coaching system.

While I think a change will be good for the Oilers, I also think MacT is a great coach that will land on his feet. How is it a guy can go from nearly winning the Cup with an average team to where he ended up at the end of this season...basically chased out of town? It's not his system or his philosophy, it was the players and the chemistry. You watch him go to a new team and meet with fantastic success. Now it is on the players to prove they weren't the issue. Good luck with that, boys.
 
I thought as much after watching the end of season news conference.....

The players had tuned him out for all intents and purposes, IMO.

Anyways, hopefully the :oilers: don't go to the 'Boys on the Bus' well and choose a new coach on ability and not some misguided sense of loyality to a bygone era?
 
My guess is Crawford will be the new coach for the oilers. And if oilers fans are lucky he will talk Cloutier into playing one more year lol :beer:

I had to laugh at that cause I do not like Crawford but the Cloutier comment is perfect.

This is going to be one of my favorite days cause we finally move on and the Stanley Cup playoffs start.:dance:

This mean MacT is now :banned: from the Oilers bench :D

Looks like MacT may re-surface in Phoenix....

Appears that he purchased a house there last week. ;)
 
Is there any truth to the rumors he may join the Flames organization as Harvey The Hound? Maybe then he could yank his own tongue out.

I agree though that the players on the Oilers are going to have to step up and improve their play. If not, there may be some major roster movement on the way.
 
I hope they bring in AHL coach of the year Scott Arniel. Other former Moose coaches are doing quite well in the NHL right now.
 
Is anyone surprised by this move? Somehow it is unfortunate, but Craig will find another team before the start of next season. Interesting that he bought a place in Phoenix. Is Gretzky going to move up to the press box, and then Mac would take over as coach? Interesting tidbit of info. there.
 
A new era for the Oilers has begun...finally!

Tambellini's press conference today was not just to announce the firing of sorts of MacT, but many of his comments were directed at the players, where he essentially indicated that he's not going to take anymore of this lazy attitude and level of non-compete and that subsequent changes will continue to be made this offseason. Gee I can think of like 5 roster names off the top that fit that protocol!

I will be the first to say I think Tamby is exactly the type of GM the Oilers need to resurrect themselves, as I think he proved today that he is obviously a no B.S. GM in this league.
I believe with the aftermath of today's emotional press conference, he proved to us all that this is officially..as of today..HIS team!!! Not only that, but he made it pretty clear I found that fans can expect to see a team next season that is finally going to be competitive again and bring this team back to what it is remembered for accomplishing in the past....Winning consistently!!!

The other great point he made was that he stated he has an idea of what coach he will be hiring, and it lead me to conclude that he is not going to be picking up some guy that floats job-to-job as a coach, but moreso a coach that instills competitive play with strict discipline and one who also will not take any B.S.! .....now I have to say, am I dreaming or does every other Oiler fan agree this is the best news we have heard since 2006!

The new era is here and I'm pretty excited about it!
 
While I also think MacT is a good coach, it is time for a new coach and I am excited about it. I want Ted Nolan as coach next year, he has always been successful. I also think that this could be the start of Tambellini's big time retooling of the team. There are a few major holes that need to be repaired, a top line scorer, some added toughness and defensive awareness on the blue line, and perhaps most importantly, securing a starting goalie. Good luck Tamellini, its going to be a busy summer.
 
Don't be surprised if you don't see Sutter there. He has done well in NJ but he has said that he wants to be closer to home.
 
I'd like to see Daum get a shot at the position. MacT should still be regarded as a great all time Oiler. He gave alot as a player and it's not like he wasn't trying as a coach and tanking on purpose. The guy loves this team and you got to thank the guy for his efforts. Much like Kevin Lowe. Love the guy or hate him MacT will always be an Oiler.

Beautifully put. It is king of sad right now to see so many Oiler fans turning on him.
 
I was a fan of MacT as well......But saying that it was definitely his time to say goodbye!!!
The team tuned him out and the players were't even trying for him anymore. It's sad as a bunch of these yahoo's have alot to prove and I'm hoping Mr. Tambellini can get rid of a handfull of them!!! In thenews confrenece he looked really ticked off with his players so I hope the new coach cracks the whip on these guys.
Kevin Lowe also has a huge part in these problems, as the contracts some of these guys got are absolutely sickening!!! Not sure what he was on when he was offering these contracts to these yahoo's but what's done is done and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Tambellini can trade some of these guys and get some fresh blood in the dressing room.
