I think the draft wont be too exciting. It would awesome to be there though, Kelowna's store (Player's Choice) is setting up there (they were invited by Upper Deck)

i disagree, with no real consensus on who the number 1 pick is i expect to see alot of deals to be made including a few big name players being moved (datsyuk? bertuzzi?)
 
I'd say the three names to keep an eye on will be Datzyuk,Luongo and Jovanovksi.Wouldn't be suprised to see one of these players dealt.

Brian... that would be an interesting trade, but not necessarily make it a good draft. Though I don't see Luongo wanting to play for LA anymore than Florida. Just seems like it would be a lateral move for LA, if not a step backwards.

If Jordan Staal doesn't go 1st overall, I'll be really surprised. Erik Johnson is going to be a great defenseman, but Staal is a potential superstar, much like his eldest brother. Phil Kessel (and the rest of Team USA) had an awful WJC tournament, so he lost some stock there, but he played very well in the World Championships against veteran NHLers. That may have been enough to put him back in the top 3-4.

In terms of trades, player movement is always hyped (Luongo, Bertuzzi, Naslund, Datsyuk) but rarely does anything materialize out of it. Draft picks are more valuable than ever now with the new landscape of the league and player movement just won't happen at the rate it used to.
If anything, I see a few decent players changing hands along with picks in order to move up in the 1st round, but besides that, I think alot of teams are just going to stand pat because very few teams can afford to take on big superstar salaries in exchange for draft picks (that cost nothing until you sign the player you draft).

Just my opinion though, I've been known to be wrong before. :)
 
I love the draft! Next to the stanley cup finals it is my favorite hockey day of the year and I'll probably enjoy it more than game 7 (I was going for the Oil ;) ) I love watching the first round and I love the possibilities of trades even though not many materialize. This year I have a feeling more will happen!
 
With the Luongo-Bertuzzi trade and Pronger possibly on the block,what will happen at the draft?We'll find out in just under an hour's time. :D
 
Got our first trade of the day..breaking news on TSN.ca

The Atlanta Thrashers have traded former top pick Patrik Stefan and Jaroslav Modry to Dallas for Niko Kapanen and a 7th round pick. Details to follow...

Maybe Stefan and Modry will play better in Dallas with Dallas being the more offensive team.Can't see Niko Kapenen benefitting as such,unless he plays with Kovalchuk,which I can't see as happening.

Well,the Stefan trade has been done and now it's being reported that San Jose and Los Angeles might make a trade or tow today.The name out there now is Evgeni Nabokov.

With Toskala having proven himself as being more than capable in the post-season,I can see Nabokov going to St.Louis for a draft pick or two.Should see quite a few trades today.
 
Wow, I can't believe that Atlanta was willing to move Stefan for so little. I understand that he hardly lived up to his advance billing, but he does have some talent; not sure if Dallas is the right place for him to bloom, however.
 
Huge trade to strat of the day.I'm an Avs fan,but I also support the Flames as well.Sweet trade for both teams.Avs improve their defense and The Flames get someone to play with Iginla.
 
Funny how this is shaping up.Two of the Western Conference Canadian teams have made a trade or deal.Now it might be Edmonton's turn.(Pronger?)
 
Ummm...Ovechkin,you were in the 2004 Draft.

HAHAHAHA...Ovechkin is running the franchise...literally! I've never seen that happen before. :D
 
Great pickup by the Bruins in getting Phil Kessel.Should be great to see him play alongside Brad Boyes and possibly Patrice Bergeron.
