OHL Playoffs Update

With the conclusion of the 2004-05 regular season schedule of games on Sunday, all eight first round playoff matchups have now been confirmed. The first round playoff schedules follow.

The Mississauga IceDogs and Peterborough Petes tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with 81 points and 34 wins each. The teams were also tied in their head-to-head record and the IceDogs earned first place in the conference based on the goals for-goals against ratio. The IceDogs will play the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the first round while the Petes will play the Belleville Bulls.

OHL Playoffs

The first round of the 2005 OHL Playoffs opens Thursday March 24. The Conference Semi-Finals begin on April 6, the Conference Finals open April 19 and the OHL Championship Series begins on May 3.

Although the Dogs didnt win against Sudbury yesterday, they won 9 of their last 10 games, or something like that. They got hot at the right time, unlike last year where they faded and lost the division in the final game. Therefore they are Central Division and Eastern Conference Champs!!! Theyve come a long way in a few short seasons.
They will face St.Mike's in the first round, the Majors had a great second half to squeak into the playoffs, but I think the Dogs can handle them. Looking forward to some great playoff hockey.

Kitchener/Erie should be a great, evenly matched series. I don't think that Mississauga will have a problem with St. Mike's. They had a good second half of the season but they're only a two line team. They'll be finished 5 games into the series.

I hope that Sportsnet picks up a few games as well. The good thing is that I believe all of the Dogs games will be aired on the local community channel, Im looking forward to attending some games too. Playoff hockey for <$15, cant beat that.

And as you stated there are certainly some great first round matchups!

Yeah I'm hoping to hit up some 'Dogs playoff action too. I went a couple years ago when Pavel Voroshnin forced a game 7 in Ottawa with an OT slapper. The place went nuts.
Anyways, I like the Dogs chances in the East. The West however looks completely stacked with London and Kitchener (Mike Richards) in there. I'm pulling for the Soo Greyhounds (Jeff Carter) and the Attack (Stefan Ruzicka) as well though... Anybody but London and I think Mississauga has a decent chance if they make it out of the East. David Shantz has been known to carry a team through a playoff run, such as he did a couple years ago when the team was only as deep as O'Sullivan and Schremp.

The funny thing is, I am actually a little worried about the Knights/Storm series. I still think London will win, anybody who thinks otherwise probably isn't too smart. But the Storm have been a bit of a pest for this Knights this season, the tied once (I think it was 0-0) and they handed London a loss too. It'll be an interesting series if you ask me.

I think that the West will come down to London and Owen Sound. I think that Owen Sound might be able to pull off an upset.

Owen Sound had a great season too but most seem to overlook them because London had a phenomenal season. Guelph and London traded goalies at the deadline so it will be interesting too see if it will be Dennis vs. Macdonald, or whether Coleman will get the nod over Dennis.
The Dogs will start Ouzas not Shantz, as he stuggled most of the season, but played well recently. They still rely on O'Sully but they won many games when he wasnt producing.
I certainly expect the Dogs to emerge from the East, but the Majors wont roll over, they had a great second half.
Anyhow Go Dogs Go.

London WILL be starting Dennis, for game one of the playoffs atleast. I don't know if I really agree with the move, Coleman had an amazing season, he deserves the start if you ask me. But I guess it is Dennis's old team, so that probably had something to do with it.
