Ohlund a Bolt...

it will be front-end loaded. 7 years is wise to keep the cap hit down.

Tampa fans - you just got a ROCK on defence. You will not be disappointed.

Lighting, that's NUTS. He's a *good* player NOW, but in 3-4 years..... Front loaded or not....

edit - Dreger's Twitter "Ohlund will get 22.5 of the 24.5 in the next 5 years."

If it's front loaded and he stinks after 4 years you just buy him out for the last few years. Your cap hit is on the buyout amount so if he's down to 1 mill a season in the last few years the hit would be 1/3 of that.
A good deal if it's front loaded.

Exactly. So it's actually a great contract for the Lightning.

Good signing for the Bolts - $3.5mil for a solid defensemen that will definitely help to mentor some of the younger players they have there - he will be missed in Vancouver.

I could not agree more, if the Jay bo deal fell through I was looking at Mattis to wear red.

Good signing by Tampa Bay. Even though we all knew he was going to sign elsewhere, I still held out a tiny hope that Ohlund would stay in Vancouver. He isn't a scoring machine, but a SOLID defenseman, and a tough SOB too. Good Luck Ohlund...we'll miss ya.

Wow...I didn't expect Ohlund to sign for that little on average per year to be honest. I wonder if Gillis would have paid him that, especially in a time where guys like David Pratt were swearing up and down Ohlund would get 6 mil a year...probably not though. The Nucks do have a lot of money tied up on D already I guess.

I called this a long time ago, I knew that if the Lightning got Hedman Ohlund would sign in Tampa!

Good signing, perhaps they will give him more opportunity to be offensive...

Sad to see him go but as mentioned before me, good on him for getting a decent contract. I would have liked to see him resigned here in Vancouver. He's a workhorse that's for sure.

Nucks writer accusing Tampa of tampering. Granted, it was a quick announcement, but it's hard for me to take this article seriously at all. Not a drop of objectivity, and he comes off with more sour grapes than a vineyard.

Anyway, thoughts?

Honestly, as a NHL fan, I have problems with any signings that take place in the first 4-6 hours. My Canuck fandom aside, I agree with Gallagher *shudder* but can't see what can be done with this - it could've been any team signing a player from another team. This isn't the first year a signing has been "announced" within the first hour of free agency.

Kevin

PS - Gallagher is an idiot generally.
