David Perron traded to Pittsburgh for 2015 first round pick and Rob Klinkhammer.

A tweet regarding the trade reads:

To Pittsburgh: David Perron
To Edmonton: The shattered dreams of the kid that they draft.
 
Seems like an awful lot to pay for Perron but I guess if Pittsburgh thinks they on a forward away from Cup contention it's certainly worth it.

One of the better moves to come out of Edmonton for sure - now just don't draft another winger with the pick.

That does seem like a lot for Perron but at the same time I don't know too much about the deal. Pitt is geared up for Cup or bust this year.

Perron has 25-30 goal potential, last season he had 28G 29A. However, this season has been a different story. Put him in a top-6 spot on Pitt and I think he could flourish once again.
 
Edmonton drafts Paajarvi round one in 2009, trades him to St.Louis for Perron, then trades him to Pittsburgh for a R1 and Klinkhammer, seems like the very definition of treading water.

Not really if you look at what's historically available at 25th overall(where Pitt would be drafting as of today)

Its a good move by Pitt never know what a pick in the 20-30 will net you now. But then again this is the Oilers and they draft top prospects to ruin them. So maybe a late 1st rounder will work for them.
 
Pens are have always been looking for suitable wingers to play with Crosby or Malkin. They haven't been able to successfully. Kunitz has clicked with Crosby. Bennett has too with Malkin, but Coach Johnson likes him with Sutter. Hornqvist has fit well too. But with the major injury to Dupuis, and Hornqvist being out for several weeks, I think it's a good move.

Edmonton is doing the inevitable. Moving players that still have some value, before they're too close to UFA and lose value, or keep them and get nothing in return.

This also is a statement to Yakupov. The #2RW spot is open for his to take, which may encourage him to re-sign at a decent price at the end of the year.

I don't like the intensity that the Oilers give up. Perron would play in the dirty areas. They need more players like that. But we all know Edm's hands are tied.
 
from what I have heard ......and seen a lot of teams were asking for Pouliot and after seeing him play Im glad we didn't move him last year for Kesler even .....to throw a mid to late first and Klinkhammer for Perron is a win for us

agreed.. Very good deal for Pens.. I am sure there will be another move as well. Too many defenseman....
 
It's still a first round pick, even if a late first round pick and Pittsburgh would seem to be the ones negotiating from a position of power. I mean, how many suitors are there really out there that would have given Edmonton for Perron? Maybe some people were knocking and maybe it was completely fair, I just think that Edmonton is over the barrel right now and not going to get screaming deals from anyone.

That being said - I don't think it's outrageous on either side and it probably is a completely fair deal. Pittsburgh can certainly use the help and health in their lineup and should be a competing team so it won't be a pick anywhere near the top half of the draft. Perron is still pretty young, isn't huge but does play with a little grit (even though I personally think he's a punk), and has a manageable cap hit under $4mil if he can come out and play well in their top six.

this was a good move for the Pens.

considering Klinkhammer was only in Pittsburgh for less than a month... they basically gave up Philip Samuelsson and a 1st rd pick for Perron.

considering the Pens depth of d-men prospects, Samuelsson wasn't hard to give up for a top 6 winger.
 
Im not sure what to think of this trade to be honest. Perron instantly became one of my favorite players last season, but he clearly threw in the towel 10 games into the season.

To be honest and my opinion, if someone were to say last week that the Oil would get a first rounder for him, the majority of posters would have laughed that one off.

I see MacT using that first rounder as a bargaining chip for something else to assist on the backend. Kind of pointless not to when we are likely to draft first overall anyways this year.

It's so fun to be an Oiler fan...lol
 
Great deal for Pittsburgh. People overvalue first round picks as the reality is outside of the top 10-15 it is very hit or miss to even get a solid NHLer let alone a 20-30 goal guy.
 
I think we all agree here that 1985 won the 25th overall lottery.

I echo everybody that says this was a good deal for Pittsburgh. Perron will probably wake up and go for broke since he's got a season and a half left on his contract, and at this rate, he's not getting 5 mill again the way he's been playing.
