Anyone here remember reading the old hockey magazines? As a kid in growing up in Canada hockey was life lol. In those days there was no internet or cable TV so we got to watch HNIC Saturdays and week nights during the playoffs outside of that there was little info out there. We would read, study and collect hockey cards and our other key source of hockey info was Hockey Digest, hockey stars and Hockey news and Hockey illustrated. Hockey Digest was big in our community. It would be read from cover to cover probably a dozen times a month. I would love the articles from a game to remember to the 2 player comparison they would do grading each part of their game. I always loved the covers. Anyhow were these a big part of any other persons childhood through the 70's and 80's and 90's? If anyone still has them and would like to trade, sell or donate them(I would gladly pay shipping) LMK I would love to have them again. Feel free to share pictures of your favorite issue and covers. If there is any interest in the thread I will post some of mine.

oh man.. totally brings back memories.. I don't have any left unfortunately .. would love to see what people submit.
 
Currently working on a set of Hockey News Yearbooks. It's a slow process as they either turn up dirt cheap or ridiculously expensive.

There's a lot of great research material in the old magazines, as long as you take Stan Fischler's contributions with a huge grain of salt.
 
I have 100's of old sports magazines in my basement, as I grew up in the 70's and kept almost everything I bought. If I get a chance I'll scan a few covers to show off my favorites.

Man, I love this stuff!

Every now and then we have a vendor at the show that deals in them but I have no idea what the market is for them. I never hear of them going for a lot. But I think it's one of those things that when you buy the item it's kind of priceless and you're buying (and reading) history.
 
I have 4 or 5 years worth of The Hockey News from the 80s out in my garage and a handful of older hockey magazines hiding in my card room somewhere.
 
Ive got some magazines that I've collected over the years. Lots of fun. Some Hockey News papers too.

But this title will always remain one of my faves...

I bought a lot of the hockey magazines in the early 90's. My favourite one's were the special goalie editions. I think in 97 or 98 they put out a top 50 goalies magazine and listed each goalies strength's and weaknesses. I wish I still had it...the cover was blue.

I'm going to see what I have left and scan what I can!
 
I collected Beckett's for a few years when they first came out. Then I used them for fire paper :P I'd still like to get a #1 again auto'd from Gretzky. Was a great first edition if I remember correctly.
 
Found an old goalies world! Loved the end of the season awards and break down of goalie styles. This is one of my favourite issues with Ron Tugnutt on the cover.





 
Anyone have the Felix Potvin issues of Hockey digest? Would also be interested in Leaf covers and Fuhr.
 
None there that I really need or want. That Crosby Readers Digest is excellent, I have one and if someone don't they should get it from you. Excellent read about a young crosby.
