There are a few cards I'd love to get my hands on one day; an Orr Auto from 91/92 Score, a Richards auto from 92/93 Score, a Hull from 91/92 Upper Deck. However, were there any differences made to cards back then that would prevent someone from getting a non-auto'd card and autographing it? Just wondering, because I've only ever seen the card fronts.
as far as i know there were no unsigned versions of orr & richard, the hull header i believe was #'d to 2000 or something, not sure if the back is different or if it has a coa.
The two Score cards are signed on the back of the cards and have a spot that is for a serial number as well. Easy to tell the real ones from the fakes (usually signed on the front of the cards).
Here's an example from someone else's bucket. As you can see it says "Of 2500 Autographed cards" and there is a space for a serial number.
Same with Richard except out of 1250
The Upper Deck Brett Hull is numbered to 2500 on the front. The way to tell the difference between the regular insert and the autographed insert is the shape of the UD hologram on the back. For the regular card it is a rectangle with rounded corners like in this auction. For the autographed card it is a diamond like below.
