ok, let's have a little fun here and predict 1 player from your favourite team to surpass expectations this season and 1 player to fall back and dissapoint.

It can be a prospect/rookie or a veteran, doesn't matter. Also, let's try and predict a sizeable growth/regression. Not just say something like, "I predict Iginla will be good and score 40 again".

Note: JUST 1 FROM EACH!

Good surpise: I think Grabovski will have a good turn around year and score 20-25 goals and 55 pts.

Bad surprise: I think expectations on Bozak are too high and he won't score at nearly the same pace (27 pts in 37 games- 0.73ppg pace) as last season. I predict an entire seasons worth of a point total in the high 30's.

Your turn.

Good Surprise - I think Backlund will be a second line center, and score 20 goals, 50 assists

Bad Surprise - Olli Jokinen. 'Nuff said.

Keith Ballard will have a good year in a city where it will be noticed and people will care.

Hodgson wont play for the big club.

Good-- I think Tyler Ennis will step up to a full-time gig and be a nice little (no pun intended) jolt for the offense.

Bad--Pominville's decline will continue. He's too soft and there just aren't enough scorers on the team for him to consistently rack up assists.

Good There's a chance that Gilmour finally elected to the fame.

Bad There's a chance that Gilmour.....

You got the second part right for sure. His back still is VERY wonky. There's fear in Nucks management that he may never get to where he needs to be physically to fulfill the potential of a top-10 pick.

good - Zetterberg will have his best season as a Wing

bad - Draper will fall off the map this season and probably be watching from the stands most of the year

Trev - That would be back-casting on Draper!!!! He fell off the map...
Last Year!

Good:
Jimmy Howard is just as solid in net as he was last year, and yes he does have a nice defense in front of him. Sulei (SP?) is a nice additio0n to replace Lilja!

Jiri Hudler - shows how much he was missed last year. Snipes away at a 30 goal season.

Bad:
Nicklas Kronwal proves that he will never get to the pinnacle many had predicted for him due to injuries that just bog down his career.

Dan Cleary proves that he was a flash-in-the-pan big time goal scorer 2 years ago.

True Bruce, Draper did fall off last year. Though he did end up playing more than I thought he would. This year he won't even get that unless we are marred with injuries again.
Also, I hope not but could be a good call on Kronwall. Did you hear his knee is still bothering him?? Not good news but hopefully he's 100% by opening night!

Trev,

Read the reports on Kronwall.
I think thay are not telling us the real story.
There is no reason that he would not be at full strength at this point in the summer - unless they made a decision to NOT go into it and just let it rest for a coupe of months.
If he waited until say July to begin building it back up - and he has had setbacks, that would be bad news indeed. Since this is not the first issue with this knee - I am leaning towards structural damage that should have been dealt with.

I think there is a real chance that he plays less than half a season - and at some point they decide to go in see what is really wrong.

Good: Carey Price becomes the #1 star that everybody's expected him to be, wins 35-40.

Bad: Andrei Kostitsyn continues to suck the life out of his teammates and the Bell Centre.

Good Suprise; I think Derek Boogaard will fight more as a Ranger and get 200 PIMs nearly doubling last years output (105)

Bad Suprise; I think his goal tally will be down on last year... oh wait a minute, it couldnt be.

Probably not quite what the OP was after, but he's my guy.

Good: Mathieu Perreault will be 2C for the Caps and top the 60pt plateau
Bad: Jeff Schultz will revert back to the tall and lanky liability of previous years

Good: The Devils offense will click and score a regular pace with Parise and Kovalchuk leading the way from the left side

Bad: The Devils defense will continue to be inept and not have the ability to move the puck out of the zone.

Player wise:

The Good: Parise will continue is assent to NHL stardom
The Bad: Rolston will remain on the team, and Lou will be forced to deal both Salvador and Zubrus.

Good: Carey Price wins 35 games

Bad: The Habs exit in the first round, with the Montreal faithful booing Carey Price off the ice causing him to demand a trade.

Good: Brandon Sutter Is going to have a huge follow up to a solid year last year

Bad: Jokinen will come back to earth after leading the team in goals last year

Good: Kessel nets 40 - 50 goals and 80+ points

Bad: Gustavsson takes a step back and looks shaky all year leaving Toronto with big ???? in goal since Giguere's contract is over after this year.

Horrible: Toronto finishes bottom three again giving the Bruins another top pick and causing the Toronto fans and media to run Burke out of town leaving the franchise in worse shape then it's ever been.

good: kyle turris shows why he was a 3rd overall pick and has 55-60 points.
bad: boedker plays a few games with coyotes but most of the season with san antonio.

hope the bad part doesnt happen but i think the coyotes roster is pretty full.
