OPC Blank Back Question

Hey guys, won this auction last night and really surprised by the cost of the card. I know these are rare but wow. Anyways I was wondering is this a normal price for these or did I overpay? Also does anyone know how many of these are actually made? As far as I have heard its more then 5 but less then 10? Let me know

I'd pay that much for a pair of blank backs if one of them was a card I wanted for a player collection - so I'd say it's fine. On occasion, they do go for $5-10 but depends on who wants them.

thats a fair price for 2. I saw a few solo ones go for way over that. hopefully you can sell/trade the extra one.

Yup, I certainly do intend to try and sell the Bert Blank back, so If anyone knows of A Bertuzzi collector or someone who may be interested please let me know! I may also add to it if there is interest a Bert Ice frozen fabrics /10 from 08/09

Personally, I won't buy a blank back. I'd rather pick up a Datsyuk Patch/Auto for $30-$40 than buy a blank back from a low end set. I guess I may be in a different situation though as Datsyuk has around 1600 cards, and as much as I'd like to be a perfectionist I'm only at around 200/1600, and I've got my Red Wings SPA FW Auto/Non-Auto project which I can feasibly perfect. I'd say that's pretty high for Rene Bourque and Tuzzi though. As stated earlier, I've seen these things go for around $10.

Good point! Depends on the player. I know I'd easily pay that for the Orpik. Like you said he doesn't have 1600 cards which creates a different case.

Just curious, did you actually see the front of the cards? The photo is dated Jan. 1, 2008. I assume the camera's date was just not set, but it looked weird to me.

At the end of the day, if you are happy with the card and the price you paid - that's all that matters. Especially when it comes to the rare stuff.

I agree with what you said about him being happy. I was only trying to explain why I, personally, will not pay for a blank back. I understand when you collect a player like Rene Bourque(not trying to bash him as I think he is a great player) and why you'd go for his blank back and pay that price. If you're happy with it that's all that matters.

Anytime you're dealing with a low end product, the chances of these blank backs ever showing up is super rare. A couple of years from now, you won't even care how much you paid; just thankful that you took advantage of the opportunity to get this into your collection. I know there are couple of cards on my wantlist that i wouldn't think twice about paying 5x to 10x the current value if it ever pops up (i just wont tell you which ones though).

That's a decent enough price for two - with these cards a lot of people who are collecting a certain player will recall the experiences in trying to track one down from previous years and know that this *might* be their only chance to own a copy. I went 18 months in between sightings of the 08-09 Gorges, and for a long time rued the day I got outbid. Then I got my copy for 99 cents. Strange world.

I have 14/18 of the Avalanche blank backs from this year. Most I grabbed for $5 or less, but I'll admit I overpaid for a couple. Especially when they were listed as BINs with best offers. I was afraid somebody else would hit the BIN if I offered, so I just hit it. That being said, I still haven't spent that much on one. But if I get down to the last couple, I probably would...

It wouldn't surprise me one bit. I only know of one other Bourque collector and they are a member on this board, thou I don't see them online often.

Really curious to know if I have the biggest Bourque collection or not yet...

The blank backs are strange. Some sell for good money while others go for $3-8 from what I've seen.

I sold a 08-09 Ladislav Smid for $25 yet I've seen much higher caliber players go for similar

Crazy, I spent $11.50 for my Backlund blank and I thought that that was a little high. That being said, I've only seen 2 of this years and have yet to see a copy of his 09-10 blank.
