OPC buyers - need your input

as most of you already know, we have a tremendous selection of pre-89 OPC singles and are looking for your input as we are putting a website together for single sales.

Here is out plan - offer base at 1/2 BV and the user selects the year and gives us a list of the cards they need. They send the $$$ (with shipping costs (minimal). We go through our inventory and provide the cards (nrmt).

If the requested cards are not available in nrmt, we will notify the buyer if we have lesser grade and offer the cards at 10% of BV and then refund for those cards if we don't have them.

Is this something you think would be welcoming to vintage buyers?

I would individually list and show stars and unmarked checklists.

I think that would be great. As a vintage collector, we are lacking a quality online presence when trying to fill sets. No one either has them or wants to mess with them. I think it would fill a big market void.

If that deal goes for all cards back to the beginning of card trading then hell ya when can I put in my order. If it is for common cards between 1970 and 90 then it is an ok deal that most card shops including you would give us anyhow. So the savings would be in fuel vs shipping to go to your shop which is a 1 hour drive for me. If it is for commons, stars and check lists pre 70 then the deal looks a little sweeter to me. I have so many 1950's to 70 's trader cards now that I would rather trade than buy but it is a nice deal. Not trying to toss sand on your fire just letting you know what I think.

Bill. Was thinking broad range but inventory wise, could actually scan most of the pre 68 stuff. You know how we work, the only time we look at full BV is for the MINT stuff and even then we never reach BV.

I was thinking however about reaching out to the guys and gals trying to put together the 74/75 and down to needing 17 cards. They could come on the site, pick that year and within the site identify the cards they need. Utilizing 1/2 current beckett values, get a cost (and shipping cost) and make the purchase using PayPal or credit card.

We get the order. I have one of the kids pull it. I inspect for quality and if all is good - ship. If there is some quality issues, I simply email the buyer with my concerns and work out a more appropriate final price. Refund the portion required (if required) and ship.

Trading would also be a favourable option as I need to maintain inventory and that would be a option via email first where you would then be assigned an online gift certificate for utilizing on the site. It may be used for old stuff or new stuff.

As you may guess, we are approaching the development stage so your input is of terrific value.

And as dannzac has mention, I think it is a hole we can fill with our huge inventory of OPC cards especially.

And although not vintage, if the principle works, we can do the same for all current years as well.

Bill has seen the wall of boxes... We have millions of cards in the store.

I would not buy vintage cards unless I could hold them in my hand or if they are graded.Unless of course the condition does not really matter.Way too many people have way too many opinions on what is mint,near mint etc..I have a few vintage singles(about 60,000) and for that reason I rarely offer them up for sale or trade unless it is at the shows or if they are graded.That way between myself and the collector we should be able to come to some sort of agreement on condition.
But on another note I believe that what you purpose will work for most vintage collectors. There certainly is a lack of vintage being offered to collectors.Good luck with whatever direction you decide to go ahead with.

Winnie, I think that will actually be a positive for us and will promote the site because we are going to set a nrmt price on base at 1/2 BV a and our experience dealing in vintage OPC will deliver NRMT+ cards - so our customers hopefully will promote the site based on their satisfaction of the cards they received.

as you know, finding decent vintage is the challenge so we understand and have experienced first hand how some people think they VG at best cards are still desirable because they are 40+ years old.... Or the guy who brings 200,000 in and mix in the poor cards with the nrmt stuff hoping to capitalize on sale value...

As for graded cards - I would rather have a raw card in my hand to judge condition versus the opinion on the summer student at PSA.... LOL.

This is exactly what I do not understand why people put so much credence into cards graded by PSA.Surely collectors know that grading is still a hands on operation done by humans. And that there is no way that 10 different people will look at a card and all 10 give it the same grade. Until someone comes up with a computer type grading system and the only thing the human has to do with the out come is the data that was entered. Than I guess we might as well let the students at PSA have their go with grading.People will always put PSA on a pedestal ahead of everyone else when it comes to grading vintage.Even with their history of shoddy work.

Your customer base will be your free advertising.When you have people telling others about their collection and where they are picking up their cards.Then you have the battle won. Good luck.
