Opening a undelivered card case with USPS?

Has anybody had to open a case with the USPS over a card that never arrived? In my case, the card was mailed with insurance and registered and signature delivery. It seems to be stuck in Chicago though. It should have gotten here on August 1 and today is the 5th and no card. I called today and they opened a case on the situation. Has this happened to anybody else? Was it successful in the end? It is a 1700 card so that is why I am so worried.

You'll have to contact the person who sent you the card. They are the ones who must open a case for non-delivery

Frank is correct, this is the responsibility of the buyer. If that card hasn't arrived, and doesn't arrive, the seller will have to return your funds and then work out the insurance claim with the USPS.

I'd also keep the faith a little longer, as I've had packages stuck in the USPS system on a more regular basis than with Canada Post. I mailed a package last year from Buffalo to Erie (one-hour drive) and it took three weeks to get there. Sometimes they just get put in the wrong bin, or sit in a pile for an extended period.

Good luck.

I'm sorry but I first read this thread title and though you were opening a case of cards with the postman...

the Toews FWAP?

Yes, it is the Toews FW. Very concerning as this is the most I've ever paid for a card and of course this happens. How long do you think I should give it before I contact the seller? I mean, he did everything right since it has a legitimate tracking number. Very frustrating.

I have never had a problem with USPS so not sure myself, however I would call their customer service number and just ask why a parcel would be held up. Can't hurt to ask what's going on. If they have no idea then ask the seller if he sent it in a weird package or something that might get searched. Who knows what happened

If it has been in Chicago since August 1st, you don't need to open a case or do anything yet. Honestly, it's only been 2 business days and this is NORMAL for packages that go through the Chicago or New York sort facilites, especially with Registered coming from Canada or any other country. I have had packages sitting in the IL and NY sort facilities for 2 WEEKS or more before they decide to actually do their job and send them back out. It is par for the course, sad, but absolutely normal with the USPS and these two specific facilities. Trust me, it will get to you, just not as quick as you'd like. And trust me again, be thankful it's the IL facility that has it and not Beth Page, NY. The NY facility is 1 MILLION times worse in situations like this. A package was sitting at the Beth Page, NY facility for over a month, and I paid to have it shipped Express which was crazy expensive, I had to call 5 times and finally I told them I want to talk to Pat Donahoe, Postmaster General for the entire USPS and I wanted to talk to him live on the phone. They put me on hold, 5 minutes later came back and said you will have the package within 48 hours. I went back and checked the next morning, and miraculously it left Beth Page and it arrived the following day.

I know it sucks, but thats the USPS for you. If its only been at the facility in IL since Friday, then there's not much you can do, and don't be surprised if it doesn't move until this Friday or even later.

What Tony is saying.
I have had packages tied up in terminals, whether Chicago, NYC or Atlanta, for a few days before the USPS website is updated!

Thanks so much everybody. It is in Chicago and was due to be delivered on August 1st so I guess I should be patient. I had no idea that Chicago was famous for these delays.

i actually had a success story with a USPS case. had some sort of Crosby card that i sent to the east coast, maybe NY. card dropped off the map and i ended up giving the seller a refund. opened a case with the St. Louis post office and they tracked it down... in a California post office. it was delivered a few days later and the buyer repaid. all was well in the end. hopefully it works out for you.

How do I go about telling the seller that is has gone missing. I mean he did everything right so it is not his problem but people on here say that the fault lies with him. What should I do? It was expected to get here on August 1st so how long should I wait until I contact him?

FWIW, when you pay extra for registered shipping, it doesn't mean it arrives quicker. As a matter of fact, it takes even longer because it needs to be picked up and scanned every time it moves or changes hands.

No one said he's at fault. However, he needs to open the claim with USPS. That's how it works. Message him to say the package has not arrived and tell him you'll keep him posted and in the meantime, he should contact USPS to see what the delay is

Not placing fault, just responsibility when it comes to opening a case with USPS. He's the one who paid for the shipping and completed all the paperwork, hence the need for him to handle those things. I definitely know what it feels like watching a high-value item hung up at a USPS stop, but like others mentioned it's probably too early yet to press the panic button.

That's a sweet card - I've got a very similar one, five breaks with those same four colors.

That's a pretty cool story. It goes to show how being proactive and a bit aggressive can really get the job done.

Is it just me, or does the OP seem to start several new threads each day? Or maybe he has so many going it's hard to keep track?
