Opinions wanted, please!

I'm going to be selling this card on ebay:

I (of course) want to maximize my profit, so I'm wondering how best to sell it. I don't sell a whole lot, so I'd like the opinions on what you all think. Should I:

1. Set a Buy It Now with a Best Offer option?

2. Let it run as a 7-day auction? With or without reserve?

3. Other?

Also, for shipping, what's the best shipping option for a high-dollar card such as this from the US to Canada? (Trackable, that paypal accepts as proof of shipping)

Stephanie, every card I have ever sold on EBay I start at 0.99 cents with no reserve. It saves you listing fees and will get you a lot more action on your auction (you like that phrase! )

I can tell you as a buyer, people who start auction with high/outrageous opening bids and/or reserves, lose my interest right away unless it is just a super hard to find card that I need.

I figure, the old saying, something is only worth what someone will pay for it comes into play. Sure there are times I thought a card may have sold for more, but then there are others where I see crazy sales.

Example, I sold a football card that booked for $25 in the winter. It was $7 with a minute left. Final price? $103!

If someone wants something bad enough, they'll go all out for it. All it takes is 2 people and some money.

I think with this card you could put a Buy It Now option as well but that price is for you to decide. I never put prices on 1/1's because, they are just that, the ONLY one.

I say go 0.99 cents starting with maybe a BIN and let it run for 7 days.

I'll have to pick #3 with the addition of either a BIN/Best Offer. Again, that will be your decision in the long run.

Cause in all likelihood you have amount in mind that you want to reel in on this!

I normally list most of my stuff at $.99 with no reserve, but I do make a few exceptions. This may be one of those cases. You may want to say to yourself. What's the least I would sell this card for, and start the bidding at that price. Then let it run. It may cost you a buck or two, but so what. I only suggest this because of the player. I do not know if he has any player following so it's kind of an unknown. If it were a better known guy then there would be less risk starting the bidding at $.99. ... my $.02. Mike

PS- I wouldn't recommend the reserve option. It usually scares away a lot of potential bidders since they suspect you have some outrageous reserve.

I say 7 day auction - no reserve, start it at 1 cent and watch it ride.. I am sure the card will go over at least $100 so it's just a matter of how much over .. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, guys. I have no idea what, if any, following this guy has, so that does make it a little tougher. I know what I'd like to get for it, but who knows if it'll happen. Again, thanks for the opinions!

Given his team, his position, sticker autograph and photoshoot patch . . . I'd probably list it for $250 BIN with a best offer. I'd probably accept any offer of $150 or more.

LOL....with all that going for it Jay you'd think maybe you were missing a decimal point in those numbers you quoted???

Kidding....list it with an opening bid of $9.99, no reserve, no BIN, 7 days, and let 'er ride. The key to that type of auction is the end of time. I used to have the best luck with either Friday evening between 3-5 EST (people checking auctions before heading out for the weekend), or Sunday evening between 8-10 EST (people getting back from weekend activity). Saturday/Sunday afternoons are a crapshoot depending on what sorts of sporting activites are going on. I once listed a nice hockey card that ended during Superbowl. That was a mistake.

I forgot to mention this but Ryan did and is on the money. The best time to have auctions end is Sunday evening during 8-9pm Eastern. Everyone is home for the weekend and before they go back to the grind on Monday. I have always run my auctions 7 days, Sunday to Sunday. 7 days allows for good exposure as well. If you do it 5 or 3, someone may miss it.

Well of course you would say that price you money grubbing, LOL, kidding.

Jay is more the business type in this hobby when it comes to the selling aspect so he may be able to advise you better.

Me? I can take a $50 hit on something I bought a few years back and not really care that much because if I want to sell it I obviously don't care to have it anymore. At that point I figure any money is good money.

Plus. there's always going to be cards you sell you make 10 times what you paid so it all evens out fine I figure. if I worried about carp like that I wouldn't enjoy this hobby very much.

Some people track everything they bought and for what. I can remember the purchase prices of most everything in my collection, I don;t use charts or anything. In the end, it is all fun. I actually talked to Giuseffi about this and we're both the same in we don't use a Beckett to buy our stuff, we just pay whatever we want for it. There's lot's of times I pay double, triple, even 4 times book for something just because I want it. That's why a B**kett should be used as a "guide" only, not a set standard. Honestly, most times, their prices are WAAAAAAYYYYYYY off.

That's what may very well happen here. Someone may just want it bad enough Stephanie and go all out.
