Thats a little too easy to manipulate. Who's to say he's not ready to play on Thursday when he in fact might still be hurt? A suspension is a suspension. You can't have a bunch of clauses stipulating that the player has to be 100% before it can start.

Should have gotten 3 games. I am glad they gave him a suspension, he deserved it and have probably deserved it for earlier plays. Every questionable hit that he throws from here on in will get him even more. Once you are an offender it follows you for the rest of your career.

Although I dont think the hit warranted a suspension, I think the NHL is going to wash its hands on this one. They cannot be accused of preferential treatment of its stars now can they? Its not their fault he wouldnt have played the next few games anyways. Right?

I think some of his other plays warranted a suspension more then this one (Gonchar was pretty obvious). Its gotta be tough on the NHL to suspended someone like Ovy. I hope he continues to play hard but I would love to see him stop the knee junk.

This suspension means nothing in real life, at least in the eyes of NHL elite player...and balding wrinkly guys in suits!

In an informal poll, TSN asked 25 NHL players whether they viewed Ovechkin as a hard-hitting player, or more often as a reckless and dirty player.

Eight of the 17 players who responded to the question said they regard Ovechkin as a very good, hard-hitting player, while seven consider him to be both reckless and dirty.

Two NHL players said he is normally very hard hitting, but that recently he has been reckless.

Detroit Red Wings forward Brad May is one of the 17 players who participated in the anonymous poll, but May asked that his opinion on Ovechkin to be revealed.

He said he saw no reason for the NHL to suspend Ovechkin for the hit on Gleason.

"Incidental contact! Remember, it's a physical game," said May. "People forget that. I have no issue with him. He's fast and aggressive and stuff happens."
