Paul Mara is a Hab

Had a few seasons in Phoenix where he averaged 45 pts as a defenseman so he can play a little. He's a competent addition if the price is right.

ill miss mara, probably the only older ranger defense i didnt mind. id take him over roszival and redden any day. hell i thought mara was a good candidate for captain. hard worker, lots of heart...

All the latest signings (aside from Gomez and Cammy) are ALL rentals until March 2010 and they will be moved for draft picks or future conciderations.

Paul Mara is a waste of skates. Has been ever since he was drafted.

Having had the grand opportunity to watch him in boston everyday (went to college in Mass), and now on my rangers. I must agree with these sentiments 100%.

Mara is a waste of space on the bench. The team would get more use out of a trash barrel sitting there.

Last year he was decent, but that is only because the other Rangers D were atrocious (except stall). I can not be happier that the rangers were able to unload his overpaid contract.

The rangers already had a player like Mara in Tom Poti, that didnt work out either. Im surprised they went for another overrated so-called "offensive" defenseman.

1.7 mil for 1 year? Still a tad high for him, I wouldnt even think of going over 1.5. Habs fans, dont say you werent warned. DO NOT rely on Mara making that big play, some nights he will have a few big defensive plays, but then in a tie game in the late stages of the third he will fall to the ice to attempt to block a shot. Only to have the shooter side step him and wrist it over Price's glove. Mara is way too "block happy", he will drop to the ice for anything, and he does it in anticipation of a shot or pass, not for the direct purpose of blocking the puck. He basically takes himself out of the play at the dumbest of times, and he does it often. As long as he stays on his feet he is a solid third defensive pairing.

Paul Mara came to the NHL being heralded as one of the best skating defensemen since Paul Coffey. Within a year, it became abundantly clear that he was never going to advance to the next level in skill. His game did not develop.

For 1.5 or 1.7 million a year, you can call me whatever you want.

Mara has been playing hockey for a long time. He has manged to be a plus defenseman on a Rangers team. That's no easy task considering the remainder of the Rags d-men were not.

Plus with only 17 give aways last season, that is better than most d-men out there. Komisarek had that many in week lol!

Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak in nets with actual defensemen in front of them, well that's just great!

1.65 million/year, that's a steal.

He's an OK 3rd line dman... Put him up against a teams top line and he will get schooled. He had the benefit of being paired with Marc Staal a lot, which helped his plus/minus... He is game and will drop the gloves and compete every night. He's decent, and can fill a hole on a team. As a Rangers fan, I hope this means they are going with youth and hope Del Zotto or Sanguinetti are NHL ready.... My $.02... Mike

PS - Hey Gainey? Any interest in Wade Redden?

So what you're saying Mike is that he's an upgrade to what the Canadiens choose not to sign then :D

IE;
BreezeByHim:eek:
Matthiew Schneider:eek:
Franks Bouillion:eek:
Mike Komisarek:eek:..................did I forget anyone Canadiens fans?

As for Redden, how much more help do you want?

Mara is better than Komisarek, older, wiser, talks on the ice, communicates with his teammates, will take a bullet for any of them....he wasn't brought in to be a saviour, he was brought in because they don't want to play O'Byrne.

TO, have fun with Komi at 4.5/yr who can't even put a puck on the opposition net....I can't skate, but I could still block shots like a mad man....I think this was a good pickup.
