The Jackets are an up and coming young team. I think many players will change their minds about playing there in the near future

Straight up. It was reported that Columbus is not retaining any of Umberger's salary which makes it even more odd

This trade has the significance in that, Richards, Carter & JVR... Have also all been traded on the 23rd of June... :crazy:

Taking into account the scuttlebutt that Columbus was considering buying out Umberger. I think this is a pretty darn solid deal for them.

Curious to know why Hartnell was willing to waive his NTC. Seems odd. And yes, win for CBJ who was desperate to move Umberger, who wanted out.

Unless Philly is going to dump Umberger for a pick and figured it would be easier to move him b/c he doesn't have a NTC.

I'm not a huge fan of this move, but I think it's fairly shrewd of Hextall to make it. Hartnell's numbers had declined since his 37 goal campaign in 11-12. Yes, partly due to injury and such in 12-13, but he was losing his step and I think Philly is going to try and plug in another winger on the Giroux-Voracek top line that can keep up with them a little bit better. They can rotate guys like Schenn, Couturier and now Umberger in to that top LW slot and see if any of them stick with G and Jake.

Hartnell is a fan favourite though, good with fans, good with the community and just an honestly good guy all around. He'll certainly be missed in the Flyers' locker room and hopefully Umberger's done some maturing in Columbus.

Hartnell sucked on the ice. All the character in the world but we was very 1 dimensional and was slowing down G and Jake. He didn't fit on any of the other lines to boot.

Apparently Hextall told him he was no longer needed and Hartnell waived his clause.

I hope he does well in CBJ but in 2 or 3 years it will def pay off.

Terrible trade by the Flyers.. Hartnell is the type of player everyone hates but would love to see on your favorite team. Giroux is not happy about this trade, so... more to come?

Maybe, but the assertion that Claude Giroux "is NOT happy with this trade" is asinine. He could be doing cartwheels for all we know, maybe he and Hartnell weren't seeing eye to eye (unlikely).

Am I a fan of this trade? No, but I don't think we can speak for players like we know them intimately.

In Giroux's case, whether he likes the trade or not doesn't matter. He's a professional making $8M a year to play a game, so I'm sure he'll suck it up, acknowledge that "it's a business" and keep playing at his normal elite level.

He said he was stunned to hear about the trade and sad to see his friend move on, but if you believe TomR, GIROUX IS FUMING OVER THIS MOVE AND HE'S REQUESTING A TRADE TODAY!!!1!!!
