I am thinking of taking advantage of the summer sale that MeiGray is holding. I have my eye on a jersey that is photo-matched. My question is, is it really worth it to spend the extra 100 for the LOA?

Personally, I'd rather a high res scan than the photo. It's much easier to zoom in on the parts you want to see.

Personally, I feel a photomatch of the jersey DOES make it worth more cash in the long run. If you can match it without having to spend the $100, even better. The "stock" getty photo might be enough to get the match already without having to spend the cash. If you can't find a match on your own, I'd more than likely spend the cash just to have one.

PS - One last thing....ALL of Meigrays jerseys come with a LOA. The photo-match is something completely seperate. The LOA itself is from the team/Meigray, whereas the photo comes from Getty.

I was looking at the Sheldon Brown jersey, it says that it is Photomatched for the 2008 NFC Championship game. So it shouldn't be too hard to find a photo from that game.

Nope.. you can get a photo LOA of any sweater.. MGG will do its best to match, but if its a one game / patch wonder or a winter classic sweater you are not guarenteed a match

Not sure why it is $100. In the description it says that a Photographic Letter of Authenticity is available for an additional $100.

Sorry.. Im just telling you what the GameWorn hobby feels, not my opinion.

The photo LOA's look great especially if you dont have access to high quality photos they can be a good idea for display.

Also, how is your LoA $100. Is the jersey $2500? The pricing is scaled:

· $35 for jerseys with a retail price of $495 or less.
· $50 for jerseys with a retail price of $695 or less.
· $75 for jerseys with a retail price of $2,495 or less.
· $100 for jerseys with a retail price of $2,500 or more that are already registered into the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Authenticaton Program or MeiGrade Registration System.

I've never seen this breakdown before. Interesting.

I recently bought a Rypien jersey for $350, yet Barry told me a photomatch would cost me $75 + shipping. It appears that somebody isn't following their own guidlines...lol.

As for the "thread matching"...if it's all you have to go by because there is no wear, that's still better than nothing IMO.

Here is a partial copy of the email that Barry sent me a few weeks ago when I inquired about the "photographic LOA" (as to whether they are a match or just a photo of the guy wearing the jersey).....

"As ar as photographic LOAs, yes, we have a large deal with Getty and can offer these at lower rates than the company would charge. And yes, we have rights to provide a photographic LOA and it is of the actual jersey match to actual marks---what we in the hobby call a photo-match. It is not just a picture of the guy in a jersey like yours."

Obviously what Meigray does and how others might feel may differ. This appears to be Meigrays' stand on the photographic LOA's they offer. Hopefully this clears things up a tiny bit :)
