Verified Trader,
This will be a bit of a story, but if you hang on for the ride, I think it will be worth it in the end...it was for me!
It started when I bought a replica Czech Jersey to wear at the first Winnipeg Jet game I was going to. It was the Washington vs. Winnipeg game that turned out to be a Washington 1-0 win. Brutal game, but the beer was cold...and plentyful
But anyway, I ordered the jersey custom with the Pavelec name and his number on the back, Jagr's number on one sleeve and Haseks number on the other. I ordered in 6 weeks before the game and was promised it would be ready. Went to pick it up on game day and it was not ready. They had trouble finding the numbers.
I told the guy that sucks, 'cause I was going to try to get Pavs, Vokoun and Neuvirth to sign it. 3 out of 4 goalies that night were Czech. At least we are good at something even if it is a target! Well, he apologized and said he has a guy inside that could get Pavelec to sign it for me. That took some time but when I got it back, I was beyond happy. Pavelec must have liked the jersey since he took the time to sign his full name on it. I have yet to see him sign anything like this. It caught me off gaurd to the point when I looked at the auto I said " who the hell is this signed beside it?" The guy said, " I think that's his first name". He was right. So here are pics of the first part of this story..
So after that I managed to land an autographed game ready stick for cheap which will look good on the wall. I managed to find out it was used and signed on April 10, 2010. Came via NHL Alumni Auctions.
And here is where the story gets fun.
I bought a pair of game used pads of Pavelec's as well on eBay. I almost bought them a year ago but backed out. I started to try to dig to get them photomatched so I started to look closer for tell tale signs on the pad so I could match them.
When I looked at them closer, I could see tape residue all around the "Vaughn" logo on the front of the pads. Now why would they do that? Well it dawned on me, International hockey does not allow non-sponsor logos to be seen, so it pushed me in the right direction. I searched for some photos and found the exact match. Here are the pads and the pic I photo matched them to.
If you look close you can see the tape covering the pads in the picture and the tape residue matches perfectly. Also, just by luck, the jersey in the photo is the same one I chose to have custom made months before. So I dug a little further and then found a small glimps of them here in this picture at the bottom left.....
And viola, there you have it, gold medal worn game used pads!! ALL MINE!!
Funny thing, these pads are the same ones that he "passed out (fainted)" in on the first game of the 2010-11 season. I am not sure if they are jinxed or not, but I decided to wear them once this past Sunday to try them out before I hung them on the wall, and now I sit here with a cast on my right foot due to a 2 on 0 that went bad. I dove accross to stop the one timer and my ankle popped. Coincidence? I think not lol!
Thanks for the patience in the long read if you made it this far!!
