Pick Your All-Time Favorite Nine

Penguins I'll go with

Lemieux
Crosby
Jagr
Coffey
Barrasso
Malkin
Fleury
Kehoe
Letang

Also very close.

Here are my nine selections.

Lemieux
Jagr
Crosby
Francis
Malkin
Coffey
MA Fleury
Barrasso
Letang

Looks like I chose Francis over Kehoe, otherwise the same.

Great choices.

:caps:

Kolzig
Hunter
Iafrate
Langway
Stevens
K. Hatcher
Ovechkin
Gartner
Bondra

Not my team but I'd also want to see Pivonka on this card (in place of Labre, who I've never heard of).

Good catch. I meant to include Kolzig anyways.

I've corrected the original post. :D

Winnipeg Jets:

Dale Hawerchuk
Thomas Steen
Bobby Hull
Teemu Selanne
Paul MacLean
Teppo Numminen
Randy Carlyle
Fred Olausson
Phil Housley

But almost as important as the inclusions on this list is that Keith Tkachuk is excluded. Winnipeg fans were not big fans of his during his time in Winnipeg. His presence would ruin the card for many Jets fans.

Also a note that the Jets never had a goalie who really made a difference so no need to include one. However if you were to, I would nominate Khabibulin, he brought us out of our seats more than any other goalie did.

For the Canucks, I'd love to see a card with the more colourful characters like Harold Snepts, Gino Odjick, Tiger Williams, etc... but in terms of best players:

Gotta go with the four guys who've had their jerseys retired...

Stan Smyl
Markus Naslund
Trevor Linden
Pavel Bure

Not that I'm biased or anything but the next two candidates:

Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin

A couple pretty clear choices in the crease...

Kirk McLean
Roberto Luongo

There were a number of guys I thought about for my final pick... Richard
Brodeur, Thonas Gradin, Mattias Ohlund, Jyrki Lumme, Tony Tanti... but I think the best choice perhaps not for his playing career but also as a Hall of Fame coach/gm/president would be

Pat Quinn

Those are my 9 too. Tight between Smyl and Gradin. Both were shining lights in the dim early 80's. Gradin was bit understated, as most swedes are, but got to go with "the Steamer" who epitomized the hard working "plumbers" the Nucks were back then.

Marc Crawford, Tiger Williams, Snepts and Patrik Sundstrom popped in my head too.

Flyers

Parent
Lindbergh
Clarke
Barber
Lindros
Howe
Desjardins
Hextall
Kerr

What about Propp? Him and Kerr were an awesome duo in the 80's. They were racking me up points in my first hockey pools back in the mid-80's. I'd probably put him in there instead of Howe or Desjardins. Again, not my team, but I just remember Propp being awesome especially on the PP with Kerr.

Very close to my list.

Iginla
MacInnis
Fleury
Kiprusoff
McDonald
Nieuwendyk
Vernon
Mullen
Loob

I thought Loob had a bigger impact on the franchise than GIlmour.

Brian Price

I agree with this and you would probably use Gilmour on the Leafs card anyway.

Funny that you ask about him. I was going through my list and took out Propp in favor of Desjardins. Perhaps I'm slightly biased, but the longevity of Desjardins anchoring the defense ultimately won out. Plus I hated Propp's "guffaw" celebration as a kid so minus point for him there!

Kings:

Dionne
Taylor
Vachon
Robitaille
Gretzky
Blake
Kopitar
Doughty
Quick

VERY tough to leave out Charlie Simmer and Bernie Nicholls, among others, but they just couldn't crack this lineup.

Sedinfan

I had Brodeur as my 9th choice but instead of Smyl I had a controversial player, Bertuzzi.

Brian Price

I was close to going with King Richard as my 9th just like you, definitely if we're considering on-ice only.

Bertuzzi's an interesting choice for sure... what a player he was at his peak, if only he'd kept his cool on that one fateful night. Who knows what the 'nucks might've done in the playoffs that year with him... what his career stats with the team could've been... so many what ifs. If he played a big part in a hypothetical '04 Cup run I'd have had to find a place for him in my top 9, but the way things ended I just can't put him anywhere near it.

I can definitely see that making sense now that you say it. I would be just as happy to see Loob on a card, and Gilmour would be better remembered as a Maple Leaf I suppose
