Pittsburgh penguins update.!!!

I don't understand the firing of Ray Shero. He's been a great GM. 3-1 series collapse isn't his fault. I think this is a terrible move by Pens ownership.

have you seen his drafts?

Jarry doing well with Edm Oil Kings. In Memorial Cup this year.
Pouliot and Maatta are looking to be great picks.
Joe Morrow was traded for Brendan Morrow (yet to see how this plays out)
Beau Bennett looks like he is a top 6 forward, and clicks with Malkin, which was near impossible to achieve.
Despres borderline, but was 30th pick.

Solid on the trade front. Neal/Niskanen for Golgoski. Kunitz for Whitney. Got Sutter/Dumoulin/Pouliot back from J. Staal fiasco. Signed Martin, who has been good. Got Crosby and Malkin on super cap friendly long term contracts.

I agree with the above. Shero has done some of the best trades since he was hired and also has drafted extremely well considering how late in the draft he usually has to pick. Wow. Bylsma makes sense, Shero does not! Will be interesting to see who they hire to replace him.

This whole situations reeks of change for the sake of change and sheer desperation from the Penguins.

Recap of season - huge chunks of man games missed due to injuries which led to inconsistent play and no real momentum headed into the playoffs. A team that was really missing a true grit element and any never got timely saves from their goaltender when they needed them.

I am not a huge Shero supporter and thought it was a complete farce when he won GM of the year, nor do I think Bylsma is an elite coach (although I do think he is very good) but did anyone really think the Pens were going to win with this lineup? In my mind they have overproduced for the past two years.

They are a couple pieces away from being elite - whoever inherits this team is really going to be in a good spot.

I agree with this as well. I guess somehow had to be the scapegoat though.

When you don't win fans are quick to forget. Look at how quick the fans and media were to turn on Crosby. It' s big business and blame for failing to win has to fall on someone and that is usually the coach and GM. Winds of change is blowing through many NHL teams this spring and summer. Should make for an interesting off season esp around the draft.

Rumor is, Bylsma is coming back for the final year of his contract. That would basically make him a "lame duck" coach. They also have no idea who the new GM will be and yet the draft is a month away. These guys really have it together, let me tell you.

Probably because if they thought they wanted a shot at Babcock - they would have to wait a year since he is still under contract..Too many people are putting too much thought into the fact that Babcock does not want another long term contract. He said he would prefer a year-to-year like Scotty Bowman had in the end in Detroit.

No.. This is not the rumor at all... Fact is, they did not fire Bylsma today because another team is interested in hiring him. They are trying to get out from under his contract. He will not coach the Pens any longer.

I think Shero did a decent job and I would not have been upset if he stayed. But some of his drafts are questionable, and not all of his trades or signings were good. I wish him the best. Classy guy who will not be out of work long..
