Hi all,

I am planning a Alberta trip next month. Are these hobby stores still open/worth visiting?

Calgary

Andy's sportscards and collectibles.

Wayne’s is definitely worth checking out and is my go to shop when in Edmonton. Rarely get to Calgary and haven’t checked out any shops but safe to say Maple Leaf Sports is the one and on HI as well!

In Calgary, Andy's, Collectors Books and Cards, Eastridge, and Maple Leaf are all still around. There is also Olympic Sports Cards which is a few blocks from Eastridge which is a pretty new one and not too bad. They all have good selections of singles and boxes, and their stores are clean and they are also all good to have a chat with.

In Edmonton, Wayne's, and West's are all still around (though West's is a bit packed with boxes and can be awkward to actually be inside because of the lack of space to move around). Also be sure to check out Frogger's House of Cards and Autograph Gallery in Edmonton, their selection of singles and boxes and extra goodies are definitely worth the visit. George's II in Sherwood Park is also excellent and a short drive using either the Anthony Henday or Whitemud.

West Edmonton Mall also has a pair of card shops I wouldn't recommend on their own as a "must visit (Card Sharks, and West Edmonton Coin & Stamp), but if you are already going to see the mall, it doesn't hurt to check them out.

All of the listed stores are definitely worth a visit, if nothing else, for the good conversation as I have found you can not only see interesting things at all of the stores, you can have some good interactions with the people who work there.

Maple Leaf Sports, Eastridge, Wayne's and West's are the stores with which I have personal experience. They are all excellent shops.

I have been to Edmonton many times to visit family. West's is more like a card warehouse with stacks of boxes and it is not really set up for easy searching. They will ask you to leave a want list and come back in a couple of days so you could always send them your list before heading to Edmonton. Wayne's is more of an old school card shop with plenty of display cases and organized boxes for searching if you have the time. Edmonton also has a monthly show that is worth checking out and per the HI calendar there is one on 24 Sep.
