How did you change your approach on your player collection? What did you stop collecting and what did you focus more on?

Thanks,

I'm just focusing on autographs, but that might change as I've had to deal a few 1/1 autographs to land a nice card.

after the rookie season I only focus on high end auto's and memo, just so that I dont spend to much money.

I too buy the bigger, better, more rare stuff. Instead of picking up all of Ryan Miller and Luke Adam's $4 rookies, I focus on the autographs, patches, and the low numbered stuff. If I'm a player collector and must have atleast one of every rookie card produced I will spend a fortune.

With my Naslund pc I decided to stop early in the 08-09 season. I was in my last year of school and decided that I couldn't keep up with new releases while also trying to accumulate older pieces that I really valued. With my other three pc's they're small enough that I don't have to limit what I go after, just try to find it all.

when Callahan started getting in more sets this year, i stopped going after the parallels and got rid of some of my RC year parallels that i didnt really like as much. now im just going after cards i want, which will pretty much be anything but parallels unless they're nice.

The Kings keep getting a fatter pipeline so every year when they come up, I may start collecting a new player...at least it was that way from 2006-2009. Now that all of the best players are up and the most important roster spots are occupied by top players, I'll probably avoid collecting third line/pairing players. Those guys even if they get good they may get traded for someone like Mike Richards. :)

I started out collecting signed cards, then I added GU cards to the mix, followed by another niche of graded PSA Gem 10 cards, and now with all that seemingly drying up for me, I've expanded to as many different cards from Larry Murphy's master list as possible. So in a few short years, I've gone from a select collecting goal to one of ultimate completion (if possible).

I collect the memorabilia cards and auto's of my guy. I might pick up the odd low numbered parallel if I can snag it at a good price. There is just to much out there to pick everything up.

I decided to collect pieces with just Lidstrom only, not all the multi player ones...I could never have afforded to get all those and just trying to find them would be just too much. This way the collection has a nice definite border.

Thanks for the responses. Have you guys sold parts of your collection to fund the newer cards?

I'm currently going through selling a nice chunk of my parallels and using that towards getting more unique cards of Potvin.

My OCD won't allow me to cut down my PC collections. I gotta have it all!

I only collect Jordan Staal and Al Bundy. A new Bundy is few and far between but Staals are always incoming.

My focus is mainly on rookie and second year Patrice Bergeron cards with the odd newer ones to complete trades. I also started collecting Jordan Caron, just because he has a beautiful last name. Thanks,

Robert Caron

Nice thing about collecting a guy that retired in the year 2000..... and was never a guy that got huge hobby love..... the new cards each year are fairly easy to keep up with. This past season (2010-11) was the biggest one for Ranford stuff in a while, and there were about 20 cards for me to chase (plus some 1/1s, and show stamps). Still hunting for a copy of an Artifacts Tundra Tandems /5 (with Bernie Nicholls) and the ITG Canada vs The World is going to have a few new ones for me to chase down..... but the limited amount of stuff that gets made each year, it's 100% stress free tracking it down. I CAN get them all :)

I have to have anything Backlund, plain and simple. But for Felix Hernadez, I go for Autos, GU, Anything fancy and whatever I pull. My main focus as of now is his 2006 SPA Nameplate "King". Thus far I have grabbed the I and G.

for the rookie year, i went after everything.

now, only cards with autos or 1/1's make the wantlist along with any other specific cards here and there that catch my eye.

I collected everything Sakic EXCEPT 1/1s up until the end of the 09-10 season. From then on it's been strictly IF I like it. I have multiple copies of some things, and haven't bothered at all with others this season.

By way of example - I have a couple copies of the Panini Limited Retired Numbers autograph. I don't think I have a single jersey card.

Once you stopped collecting every possible card of Sakic did you start selling off some of the cards you didn't like as much? Such as the variations of one card?
