Hi everybody--I was thinking with the beginning of this year's hockey season that its been 10 years and 2000+ cards later that I've been working on the Lidstrom collection and I was curious to see how long you other player collectors have been collecting your guy? For those of you who gave up and moved on, why was it? Were you bored? Not enough new pieces coming out?

I've been collecting Zach Bogosian for about a year now. I have about 110-120 different cards of him. I started going after the rarer stuff first but I will eventually go after all the parallels, jersey cards etc. at some point down the road.

Primary PC: I got my very first Arturs Irbe base card back in 2001 or 2002. 9-10 years later, and 700+ cards, pucks, a GU stick, and countless other nick-nacks later I am at it collecting harder than ever. I am also a Super Collector for my player collection over on SCF.

My secondary PC of Levente Szuper I have been at since 2008. His stuff does not pop up very often anymore and he is really cheap when it does.

I also had a David Aebischer PC going at one point, but I gave up on that because Aebischer was never a favorite goalie of mine, and I only collected him because I always pulled nice stuff of him. It is a nice collection and I still have everything of him because it is impossible to trade Aebischer cards nowadays...unless Pavelec or Mason gets injured in Winnipeg and Aebischer gets the call-up.

1995-2010. Fair run, I'd say. And I still add, but post-2010 it's strictly on an "ooooh, SHINY!" basis.

2004-now for Fleury cards, had a lot of catching up to do with the late 90s early 2000 paralhell but thanks to ebay & the boards I've got pretty much everything that isn't super hard to find :)

Started around 1994/1995 and did collect to 2000. Started up again in 2006 I think, and now its a full time hobby. And I digg it. ;)

Linden has been my primary pc not for about 15 years.

It's the single most enjoyable project I have ever worked on. I don't anticipate ever finishing it (which suits me fine). I enjoy finding those elusive low numbered parallels from 10-15 years ago.

I've been collecting Spezza seriously since 2003.

Foligno, I have been collecting since the NHL draft here in 2008. I had just bought a Foligno Game Used Stick from the Sens Store, and literally, within 5 minutes of purchasing it, Nick walks by and I was able to get him to sign it, and we spoke for a couple of minutes. Been colleting him ever since.

I've been collecting Guillaume Latendresse since 2006. I doubt I'll ever have everything I want (which is....everything), but I don't plan to stop any time soon either.

05-06 for Lundqvist for me. i actuallly have the entire 05-06 UD Lundqvist Master Set of all cards not counting the 1/1's. if you count the 1/1's, i still have them all except for the SPA Rarified Rookies 1/1. after the 05-06 rookie year release, i'm more focused on just the 1/1's, autos, and mainly higher end stuff that catches my eye.

My player collections and the times they were started:
Joe Mullen- 1983
Lafontaine-1985
Liut-1983
Peter Stastny-1985
Roy-1986
Sakic-1990
Forsberg-1994
Paul Stastny-2006
My dedication to each collection fluctuates but I have never given up completely or parted with anything from them:|

I bought my first Larry Murphy signed OPC RC off Ebay in my first year at university in 1997, and that started it all. It's only expanded in scope since then.

Joe Pawich

Samsonov was my first collection of any sort; I started in 1998. Almost all of my other player collections were added in the next few years, before the Detroit Vipers folded in 2001. So, better than ten years.

I´ve got a terrible memory, but something like 1997-2000 and 2005-2011 sounds right. Decided to just pack it in this past May and don´t really have any interest/intention of starting up again. Although, I do still have 6 cards kicking around that I may or may not sell.

I´ve had too mainly collections (and I use the term loosely) to count and really gave up due to a combination boredom and logic. Could no longer justify spending the money on cardboard, when it could go toward something more meaningful.

For Roenick and Tkachuk, since 1994. A lot of different player collections have come and gone since 1994, but those two have always stuck with me. Stempniak since 2008, or something around that time.
