Postal Strike?

Hey to all the friends in the North. We don't hear much about the strike in the US, and all I have learned is what I've been searching for on the net.

Just had a few questions if you can help:

1. Should I stop shipping to Canada and buying from Canada on Ebay for awhile?

2. Should I expect seriously longer shipping times? I don't want to trade with someone that won't get their cards for months.

I guess I could just a little more info on how you guys/gals think the strike will affect the whole system...I don't want cards going "lost" and not having recourse.

At this point I'm rambling, just post here if you have any help for a Texas boy.

1) I live in Canada (Ottawa) and have still been receiving all my packages. It really depends on where you are shipping too. Some places it is business as usual.

2) It's actually been quicker because less packages are in the mail.

However, if this strike blows up or becomes a cross country strike then yes, there could be severe implications. Right now though it appears to be business as usual for most of the country - some palces just delivering mail 3 times a week.
 
I have been waiting a month for packages from Calgary, and Saskatchewan. This has lead me to only purchasing from US members on here or ebay. Also I am not selling anything on either site until this gets worked out up there. Its not worth the risk losing mail. Also if your a U.S. seller your avoiding getting full value on your cards right now, as there aren't as many Canadian bidders as usual.
 
i've been receiving mail all this time and my packages have been going through as well. as noted 2 posts above, packages are going even quicker now due to less congestion in the postal system. record 4 days in transit from Canada to US shipped regular way!!!
 
My packages are arriving to Canada (according to my feedback), but I should be recieving a lot more feedback than I am given the amount of cards I've shipped. I always email the buyer and inform them of the strike and to please be patient.
 
Just a note -- the strike rotated to the two biggest sorting facilities in the country, including the one in Toronto. I wasn't worried before, but I'm getting there now.

So ... Hopefully this is just one of those rotating things and this gets in tomorrow... :l
 
I'm gonna buy me some carrier pigeons and start a small business. I hope the pigeons don't demand more feed and go on strike.
 
Haven't had mail since last Wednesday in Edmonton. Maybe it's just my unpopular self, but no mail here.
 
Wait a sec, is it Canada Post that's decided to shut down or is it the CUPW that has decided to go on a full lockout?

Based on Canadapost.ca it looks as if Canada Post has made the decision to shut down completely and not the union.

The employees can strike or the company can lock them out. In this case the employees made the first move by starting rotating strikes and the company decided it was doing more harm than good so they used their right to lock them out, suspending operations entirely.
 
Great, well I just had almost $500 worth of auctions end on Monday with 19 of 20 of my items being won by Canadian bidders. Funny thing is that EVERYONE paid me within 24hrs. I dunno about the rest of you, but that's almost unheard of for me when selling.
 
Well this sucks, I just started selling on Ebay 3 1/2 weeks ago. I had 98 items sell on Sunday, of which 70 have been mailed already and I have 101 items up right now. Should I end the auctions early or wait a few days? They don't end until Sunday.

Like someone posted earlier, the rotational strike just hit Toronto. No mail for me this morning. All the eBay purchases, trades i've made in the last few days i requested the sellers, traders to hold off on sending the items, probably the best bet!

it's no longer a rotational strike. Canada Post has gone on lockdown. Nothing is being delivered anywhere.
 
Oh ain't this just grand.......lockdown.... I heard locked-out. Which is just fit for our hobby when the CBA is up
 
Actually if you live on a rural route you will probably still have mail today and possibly tomorrow. Any mail that has made it to your rural post office will still be delivered.
