Potential Leaf's Moves This Year

I was watching the TSN broadcast of the Leaf's game last night and it was mentioned exactly what the Leaf's could have got for Sundin and Kaberle had they lifted their no trade clauses last year. Kaberle would have fetched them Jeff Carter(doh) and a first rounder(another doh) and Sundin would have landed them Chris Higgins, Grabovski and a first rounder from the HABS.

That being said, we all know Burke is focused on making this team better in the long run, so who will be traded and what do you think will be the return? I believe Burke said he was interested in Bobby Ryan from the Ducks so that's where I think he will start. Ryan has performed pretty well during the season, but not sure what the Ducks could use from the Leaf's roster. So, let's speculate!
 
I think there's a little more to the Sundin talk than is being let on. Sundin doesn't seem like a guy who would leave his team high and dry unless there was a reason. I think there was some mistrust between he and management and this was his way of spiting something that they may have said about or have done to him.

Regardless, I see the Leafs as sellers after December 27th. Anyone who can be moved WILL be moved with likely picks coming to Toronto.

It's been said that Pogge will be called up to progress at the NHL level, so that says that either Joseph (doubtful) or Toskala will be on their way out to a contending team.

Kaberle can still be had for a similar deal. He isn't any worse and a contending team will be able to use him. He'd have to waive his no trade clause and it would have to be to a team that HE wants to go to.

Antropov is UFA at the end of the year, but I see him back in TO. I'm not a fan, but he's quite settled in Toronto and has said he didn't want to uproot his family.

Blake and Pony are gone for sure. Draft picks for these two, please.
 
I don't why people rat on Pony so much. He is what he is, a 20 goal scorer and a 50 point guy. He is what he is. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Blake has been playing some inspired hockey lately, but yah he has to go b/c his ticket is so damn big. Hopefully he keeps it up and someone overpays for him. Kaberle is a valued commodity in today's NHL and someone will pay a hefty price for him. Potential teams?? Minnesota in a Gaborik package??? Hmm. That would definitely provide for a big splash and Minny needs a powerplay quarterback and a bonafide puck moving defenceman. Let the rumors begin!
 
Well, I gotta agree with the Carter idea, even though it won't happen, but here is some deals I might see:

Kabarle( Defence help) to Anaheim for Ryan,Moen and a pick
Pony,Blake (etheir or) to Dallas for a late pick or Lauri Tukonen,Konstain Puskarev(sp?)
Antropov to Vancouver for etheri Steve Bernier or Taylor Pyatt

But I don't think much will happen, as Burke doesn't have anything really enticing to work with in the ways of trading,but he will try very hard.

I see a lot of the older guys being let go. I think it would be a mistake to move Kaberle unless it is for something really good, but anyone who has been with the Leafs for longer than a year is available. Antropov doesn't seem like the type of player that Burke likes, but he probably won't give guys away via free agency either. Joseph probably will be unmovable simply because I doubt anyone will want him, but he won't be back next year. Blake will be hard to move without taking any other overpriced player in return. Burke will quite possibly gut the entire team, save for a few key pieces, and build from square one.

I see Burke trying to make a deal with the Ducks, but I don't think they need Kaberle since they already have Pronger and Niedermayer. Bernier is intriguing b/c he is young and had that one good season, but I think Antropov is one of those players that will just stick around Toronto for the rest of his career. I see the most likely player to be traded to be Toskala if he continues to struggle..
 
I imagine Cujo will retire next year, so I have trouble with Pogge being the only goalie in the Leafs organization if Toskala is traded. Can anyone name the next in line?

I agree that Blake and Poni are on the block. As are other overachievers such as Steve (Oops, I mean Dominic) Moore and Ian White. Jamal Mayers is surely for sale, but there won't be many takers.
 
Cujo is taking one last kick at the can this year and so far it has been a disaster. I am guessing that Burke will get some more depth in net and then depending on who he gets and if Toskala gets better, build from that point.
 
I think Cujo is actually steering for a job in Toronto either as a goaltending coach or in management.

Pogge will be given the chance for the rest of the season...if he passes, the Leafs go looking for a backup. If he fails, the Leafs go looking for someone for HIM to back up.
 
Pogge at least deserves a chance to show what he has at the N.H.L level. Not saying they need to throw him to the wolves, but he deserves a little cameo appearance. I am guessing if Toskala was playing more consistently that he would have already been traded or at least the rumors would be hot and heavy. Teams always need goaltending help down the stretch, so it will not surprise me at all if he gets moved for a decent package..Devils maybe??

I gotta have some of the kool-aid the Toronto Sports "media" is having.
Carter and a 1 for Kaberle? Not then, not now, not ever.
 
cards-gotta-go, is that from a Leafs perspective or a Flyers perspect? If I'm Toronto I wouldn't think twice about calling it a done deal.

As for the trades, what do the Leafs really have to offer? I don't think they have many assets that are particularly interesting outside of Kaberl,e... who has a NTC. Antropov is a UFA so don't expect a big return. Schenn won't be moved, that doesn't leave much for other teams to show interest. If anything I think the moves Toronto will make are going to be similar to Stempniak for Steen/Cola. I just don't see what Toronto has to offer to land anyone of significance.

The rumor last year wasn't just from the Toronto media and the source that mentioned it recently was Bob Mackenzie, a pretty reputable guy that wouldn't just make something up..
 
That deal has been confirmed by numerous people for MONTHS. I've known about that since the deadline. It was 100%, unequivacally on the table just needed Kaberles approval. Obviously he didn't waive.

Jai you must be confusing McKenzie with Dreger. McKenzie is NOT a rumour monger. In fact, he rarely, if ever speaks unless its 100% fact. McKenzie doesn't even report rumours thats not his job at all. Dreger is the rumour ("insider") guy that makes stuff up as he goes.
 
Agreed Mackenzie has been in the business for YEARS and he is a very respected journalist throughout the entire NHL. Dreger on other hand makes up a new rumour everyday during the NHL on TSN broadcasts, but then again that's his job. Let's hope kaberle waives his NTC this time around since I think he can still fetch a pretty package.
