I know there are many trades and acquisitions threads already, but I wanted to keep this about the Leafs. I would appreciate if this was kept to the Leafs only and no negative comments please. I am interested in your thoughts and opinions.

I personally am not really sure what is going to happen next. Albeit I am looking for us to upgrade in the net position. I was personally sad to see Schenn and the Monster go but I understand the needs to do so.

Ok go!

they need a big centerman (Knuble) and a first line center (won't happen). They also need a Big, hard-hitting defencemen since they dealt away their future.

PS - Knuble is an american born player

Ameet. Leaf fans can go on and on about big D-men, power forwards, bonafide first/second line centres, or for Dion to learn how to turn to the right on the move. But, the truth of the matter is, the team will go nowhere without a top-level goaltender.

Your goaltender is the basis for the entire team. Though Reimer and/or Scrivens may eventually be that goaltender, they definitely aren't at this time. I honestly think that if the Leafs had had some solid goaltending from Mid-February on, they would have finally made the playoffs.

If Burke is planning on going with a Reimer/Scrivens combo, I also honestly think it will be yet another year without playoff hockey in T.O. Stranger things have happened (after all, an 8 seed won the Cup this year). You need a quality veteran goaltender; that may be the catalyst to that long-allusive playoff spot.

I agree, a goalie SHOULD be their #1 priority. Championship teams are built from the net out. Luongo or if that can't happen than Tim Thomas to help guide Reimer.

Can we stop the talk about Schenn being such a cornerstone to the Leaf's puzzle? Fine when he came into the league he was an untouchable, but would Burke have really traded someone that he thought was a blue chip prospect still? At the end of the day JVR fills a bigger need than what Schenn provided and Burke did well to fill it.

Back to the topic at hand, I believe the Leaf's will make a splash for a #1 center on July 1st and that either means Parise or another top line guy. I think the goalie issue will linger for most of the summer and it is also sad to see the Monster go seeing that I did PC him, but I think he will flourish under a decent goalie coach.

Burke has to say he's content to go forward with a Reimer/Scrivens combo, it's just gamesmanship between the GM's to make it seem they arn't as desperate as they really are. Scrivens needs to be the #1 for the Marlies for another year and Reimer needs a few seasons as a back up before being given the keys to the bus.

If the season starts with Reimer/Scrivens Burke will be out of a job by the start of the new year mark my words.

I thought Thomas was looking to take a year off this year? If so his name isn't in the mix. I stilll think there's an outside chance to make a deal with Vancouver for Luongo, but it seems like both GM's will not be the first to cave in. As the summer comes closer I feel that Vancouver will have no choice but to accept someones offer on Luongo. I just don't see how they can start the year with him not really wanting to be there?

As far a centremen go, there isn'nt a whole lot available this year. Not sure if they are interested in a Olli Jokinen, but may consider a Paul Gaustad type, which would help them a ton on faceoffs, and defensive zone play. P.A. Parenteau is available, and someone who proved last year he was a pretty decent point guy on a very bad Islander team, but he's a winger, and not really what Toronto needs right now. I'm afraid they'll have to make a trade to get a nice centerman, but are there any teams swimming in centers that can afford to move one? I don't think so! Gonna be another tough year as a Leafs fan, I'm afraid.

Maybe Joe Colborne, Carter Ashton, or Nazem Kadri can step up, and play some center for the Leafs this year?

I'll go with them trading with Burke's old team and finding a way to get Bobby Ryan, even though I don't think he fits their big needs per se.

this is my prediction

leafs trade:ben scrivens, nazem kadri and a draft pick in 2013
canucks trade:roberto loungo

You could be right. I have a strong feeling Burke would love to get Ryan. What would it take, though?

I'd much rather them pick up Thomas over Luongo so I'd have another reason to wish the worst for the leafs lol. But seriously, if Lu to the leafs somehow makes it easier for him to sign for UD then get it done Burke!

I don't think Burke will trade for a goalie. He's stubborn about not paying/trading for a legit #1 goalie, so forget about a pretty good #1 goalie. He just doesn't believe in doing that.

I know that's what the Leafs need to address immediately, but Burke always sticks to his guns and will spin it that it's not an issue.

He's landed his power forward (JVR) that he's always coveted (ie. Bertuzzi, Ryan, etc.) Next will probably be a legit #1 C. But he's signed Grabo for big money so he's convinced himself that he's a legit #1C

To replace Schenn, he'll dip into the UFA market. He'll try for Suter, but won't get him since Suter mainly wants to play in the Western conference. Plus too many offers and can't compete.

Burke signs Matt Carle for 4 years @ $4.25 mil per.

If he does get a goalie, it'll be someone on the cheap end, like Al Montoya for $2 mil/yr.

Curious to see what he does with Kulemin. RFA. sign and trade? Top 6 are set, so that leaves Kulemin on the 3rd line.

Canucks----Komisarek + Whatever Just dump the Salary

I really don't know what it is, but the Leaf fans at my work moan about it and it stuck in my head!
