This should be fun. lotta trading & "foiling up"

*Edit a box later and You figure out there are no physical cards unless you build full sets and only getting 10 or 6 cards in return. wow

So let me see if I get this.

I get to collect a set. That I will never physically hold, and that will only exist on the internet.

Where on the UD site do I get to buy e-9 pocket trading card pages, So I can put them into my invisible binder?

I am of the opinion that this release will not appeal to most of the people on this site, nor to most of the traditional collecting market. It does not appeal to me.
They will know by how much we use our credit cards, what we think of it.
This strikes me as more of an effort to reach a new market, since ours is gradually but consistently shrinking, a business venture if you will. It may go over well, and it may flop. Either way, I wish them well for trying something new.

Would have been nice if there was a larger physical component to this. A total of 16 different cards in 3 colours is weak. I just don't understand the interest in wanting a collection full of cards you can only see on a screen. I'll just peruse eBay for that experience.

MY VERDICT:

I love that UD is selling people air and everyone thinks it's a great idea. The laughter in those boardroom meetings must border on insanity.

What is your opinion of iTunes, eBooks, Internet adult entertainment videos, podcasts, sports streams, fantasy manager games, online video games or movie renting from internet? What are the huge differences you see compared to collectable cards i.e. why buying some of them is (or is it?) stupid and why some is not?

Because those examples are tangible. You get to listen/read/watch those things and get the intended enjoyment out of them. For a large majority of people, not being able to actually hold, look at and physically store/show off cards makes it stupid.

iTunes - I hate everything that has to do with Apple.
eBooks - great because you can fit a library on a small device.
Internet Adult Entertainment - Best thing since sliced bread. No more tapes getting stuck in the VCR.
podcasts - I like. Can take them with you. Better than most things on TV now days. (Wish Norm MacDonald would bring his back. JRE and TFATK are awesome as well)
Fantasy manager games - dont use them/
Online games - Pokemon Go is pretty sweet. Walked 10 Kms yesterday.
Movie renting from the internet - I dont rent movies.

UD shouldn't advertise these as cards. They are photos. Photos that you can't even keep for yourself unless you screen shot the cards. Only cards you can get, you have to continue to buy packs to try and gather enough of the same card to transfer a physical card to you, which you have to pay for again.

I mostly agree with you. However, in my opinion eCards are just as much cards as eBooks are books.

But yes, "photos" (especially what to most people are "photos" in 2016) sounds very good to me. Print them out if you want or save as images if you want. Then you can sort them as well.

I completely understand that some people don't appreciate eCards. I also think that due to exploding shipping costs eCards are a great option.

One another thing I don't get is that what it actually even means if you habe doubles of some eCards. Can't you copy them as many as you want for yourself?

Also I don't understand AU/GU digital cards. Why can't you just photoshop an autograph on top of them? How do you have an authentic electronic piece of jersey on the card? Did it come from EA Sports or how does it work?

I am not up to par on ebooks, but once you have the ebook you can carry it around with you, without having to sign into a website to view/read it no?
If UD made it so that you could do something where it isnt strictly online, it may help ease the move from physical to digital.

If the player didn't put a pen he is holding to the card to sign it, to me it isnt autographed. Its printed. Does beckett grading still grade pre-printed autos? I think that is another down side to epacks. You lose out on the chance to get autos/memorabilia, even if the market is already flooded.

I think what they should do. Put codes on the packs like they did with the Tim Horntons cards. Except more secure so that people don't steal them. Gives incentive to buy more physical cards, plus get the added bonus of a digital ones as well, and vice versa. Could have range of awards. Certain amount of packs redeemed, still collect certain amount of cards to obtain physical special versions of it etc....
To me that is a win win situation.

ps.... If any one from UD steal this idea from me, I want a cut of it.

I don't mind this idea, so long as UD accepts my scanned images of money as payment so we can at least be on a level playing field

I'm not surprised it's come to this. Topps is making a killing on Star Wars Digital Card Trading, where there is ZERO physical component. There's not even "foiling up to get 6 or 10 cards" - People have spent thousands of dollars on that to build up the best collection of pictures ever.

It's all in your mentality/rationale though. We're not the target demographic here as lifelong physical/tangible card collectors.

I went through a Reddit thread about SWCT to try and understand peoples' point of view and it was really interesting. Some people don't care about the physical aspect of collecting because they don't want the cards cluttering and taking up space. Some others think that it's a hassle to collect physical cards because of where they live. Others like the immediate nature without running out to an LCS or waiting for eBay to deliver them something.

I "collect" SWCT digital app but don't put any physical money into it since they're just pictures to me. My 2 year old daughter likes flipping through them and seeing her favorite characters so it's good enough reason for me to spend 30 minutes a week screwing around with it.

You can put anything for sale and there will be a market for it I guess.

the epack release's always come down this argument.
Personally I like the fact that I can "trade" any time I want and that there are always people on there that want to trade.
I like that I can take my "hits" and leave the base and not have to worry how I'm going to get rid of them.
It's not for everyone but it's for some.

For me I have one place in town that I know of that sells packs (not counting walmart) and they are expensive to buy off of. The closest card store is a 35 minute drive to another town. They also tend to be a bit pricey.

To each their own. There are good things and bad things about this.

Just enjoy what you enjoy and move on.
