At least people can physically own these cards. I'm sure it'll cost a car payment to get them to you, though...

I'm not big into the E-pack thing, but many people seem to like it. Interesting idea here. Certainly nice to see an actual base set that isn't numbered, as well as a cheap pack price. Could be viewed as "E-Pack Exclusive Victory." And I don't mean that in a bad way, I think inexpensive sets are what this hobby needs right now, as nearly every product we see the past 2-3 years is high end.

I actually like the idea of 900-card set and the fact that you can get physical copies by combining. That means you'll get cards of the players who usually has only 1 card per season at most (in sets like O-Pee-Chee). That being said i'm definately down to chase all Sami Vatanen parallels and maybe other Finnish players who usually doesn't get much cards.

This is now up on ePack, so you can view the checklist for the 1st 300 cards. None of my 3 PC guys are in the first wave, so I'll be sitting this one out for the time being.

There wer 898 players to get at least one game in last year, and 92 goalies. That's 990 names in total.

I expect UD will include some of the usual retired players in this set, and there will probably be things like "highlight" or All Star cards..... but they've got a real opportunity to include almost every player in the league if they want. That would be a good thing, IMO.

This is how E-pack should be done. Make it similar to a collect em all Pokemon type thing.
It adds an element of fun and facilitates trades, which are harder to do in real life.

Don't mirror existing product and dilute the hits.

Regular hobbyists who have been collecting for years have many base sets sitting in their homes that they can't move even for shipping. They don't look at them and don't want more sitting in the shelves. That's a part of why we see less large base sets now. Most regular collectors don't want them anymore.

For sure, there's a place for a couple of affordable products with large and nicely done base sets, but I think super limited base cards in high-end products are at there place.

So if you complete the 900 card set you can't get them shipped to you? Only the parallels that you upgrade to? That sucks. If they allowed people who have the entire base set to have that sent to them then I'd be in on this. Otherwise, why bother spending all that money only to end up with a few inserts and parallels?

Agree with what you're saying. But nowhere in my post did I ever say anything negative about high-end products, nor was I referring to junk 90's - 00's base. I regularly rip low-end product, toss the base and keep the inserts/GU/Auto/RC. I have zero problem doing that and have a great time opening those packs. If it's such a big deal for dudes to hold onto base, then throw it out, save yourself some space.

And perhaps I should have elaborated more on my opinion on cheaper sets. Personally, I like ripping open packs. I'd rather open 10 boxes (180 packs) of a Between The Pipes product than spend less than two minutes opening a box of say, Ultimate Collection or Premier (same price, hence the comparison). That is why I'm saying that a low-end product like this is good for the hobby, as I know I'm not the only one that enjoys ripping packs. Yes, I know this product is opened electronically, but I think you can understand my thoughts here. Heck, I could open a 20-box case of 3 of the last 4 years of Between The Pipes for less than a single box of this year's Cup. Yes, I realize the cards in the latter are much more valuable, it's just not worth the risk to me. I understand it's different for others, and that's completely ok, obviously.

Also, cheaper sets will allow more kids and people without a lot of disposable income to stay active in the hobby. I know that if I didn't have disposable income (super thankful I do have a little) I couldn't collect the players I do.

Hope this doesn't come off as rude, simply trying to clarify my post, as I think you misinterpreted it.

I agree 100%. I wish there were more lower end releases. The value is in those breaks WAY more than high-end. However, everyone is into group breaks now and it's almost impossible to rip a case of OPC on a live video feed whereas a case of Premier will take 10 minutes. It REALLY sucks but that's where the hobby is right now.

Cody McLeod right there. This is my set.

Which cards have the physical versions? Or to be more specific, does base cards have the physical version?

So to get a full set of gold we're looking at 250 copies of each card times 900 cards divided by 7.5 base cards per pack (one insert every other pack). So it would take 30,000 packs or $29,700 ... meaning you'd need to make $33 per if you pieced them out as singles to break even.

Blue, Red, and Gold have physical versions. I would assume Magenta as well. Unsure about the base

That's why I wish they'd allow people to keep their base (if they've completed sets). Many people would want the entire 900 card set but it'll be way too expensive to get it in any of the parallel versions

having to get 310 copies of the Henrique is going to be very interesting. Gonna be tough to get one per for the pc.

I'm currently at 8.

they also have the printing plates in there.
