Preview: New 900-Card Set from UD on ePack

Just read the email for the second time and must admit I'm confused as ****. I wonder if UD will be offering a course on how to understand Compendium. Classroom or correspondence...anything, but this certainly calls for a manual at minimum.

Agreed. At first it sounded as though you could get the base if you completed the 900 card set. Now I'm not sure

Also, when are Series 2 and Series 3 of Complexity going to be released? I'm not asking for any certain date, if you can guess by a month that's good enough.

Agree with what you're saying. But nowhere in my post did I ever say anything negative about high-end products, nor was I referring to junk 90's - 00's base. I regularly rip low-end product, toss the base and keep the inserts/GU/Auto/RC. I have zero problem doing that and have a great time opening those packs. If it's such a big deal for dudes to hold onto base, then throw it out, save yourself some space.

And perhaps I should have elaborated more on my opinion on cheaper sets. Personally, I like ripping open packs. I'd rather open 10 boxes (180 packs) of a Between The Pipes product than spend less than two minutes opening a box of say, Ultimate Collection or Premier (same price, hence the comparison). That is why I'm saying that a low-end product like this is good for the hobby, as I know I'm not the only one that enjoys ripping packs. Yes, I know this product is opened electronically, but I think you can understand my thoughts here. Heck, I could open a 20-box case of 3 of the last 4 years of Between The Pipes for less than a single box of this year's Cup. Yes, I realize the cards in the latter are much more valuable, it's just not worth the risk to me. I understand it's different for others, and that's completely ok, obviously.

Also, cheaper sets will allow more kids and people without a lot of disposable income to stay active in the hobby. I know that if I didn't have disposable income (super thankful I do have a little) I couldn't collect the players I do.

Hope this doesn't come off as rude, simply trying to clarify my post, as I think you misinterpreted it.

Tim Horton was good for new-comers, and I think the new Parkhurst will be a good option too.

Personnally, I prefer to buy discounted hobby wax from a couple of years ago when I have an urge to open something but I understand many people prefer to get cards of the players with their new team.

I just got this card from a pack:

Carbon FX
 C-24 Pekka Rinne

Is this a physical card that I can redeem right away if I want to?

I can't even pronounce the name of the set

having to get 310 copies of the Henrique is going to be very interesting. Gonna be tough to get one per for the pc.

I'm currently at 8.

they also have the printing plates in there.

If playing with the Topps digital apps has taught me anything, it may be easier to get the copies than you may think. People will hoard/collect all types of players/teams, etc. If/when my PC guys get cards, I will join ePack, and from there, it's just a matter of trading what cards I do get for my PC guys, and keeping nothing else (... well, maybe Canucks as a tertiary collection).

Depenps a lot on the player. Jason Garrison or Cody McLeod are easy, because the number of their collectors are really limited, but I can guarantee to you that if you want to try the same with Crosby, Matthews or McDavid, you are facing a lot tougher challenge. If you don't believe, offer a Garrison for Crosby and then offer McDavid for McLeod and analyze the success rate.

This is true, and also anything with those guys names on it (Sid, Price, McD, etc.) are valued as gold bars on the ePack site. Last year with UD1/UD2 people were trading 10 "common" base for 1 Superstar. So like said above , if you are a McLeod collector, this process might be a heck of a lot easier than if you are trying to acquire Matthews to trade up.

The other thing to remember with the ePack site is there are a handful of people who just spend huge piles of $$$ on that site and hoard their cards. Which is fine, but I can see a lot of this printing plates getting hoarded by those people, and many player collectors won't get a shot at them. Just ask the guy on the ePack site that was hoarding 5 Stempniak Super Scripts /25 at once. Wouldn't move any of them, not really sure why you need 5, but to each their own right?

This should be fun (if any of my guys end up included)

Well someone might go for the Quincy.

same guy had multiples of Henrique as well.
Very tough to trade with,

Very tough to trade with,

There was a guy who had 50+ McDavid YGs on the site as well, literally a third of the available McDavids at the time of the foil achievement craze.

Wouldn't move a singe one, was acquiring more.

Same guy spent about $10K on Marvel Masterpieces and tied up all of those cards as well, had a dozen or so SP base /99 that people were clamoring over. Claimed he "didn't know what he had".

At one point I assumed he was a mole planted by UD put in place to limit the number of achievements that could be obtained...

I would love to buy some packs and start trading around, but to what end? The resale value on the Fusion achievements should be an indicator for anyone thinking of attempting this - a McDavid Black achievement card sold for under $200 - the resources needed to get enough copies to make that would have been astounding.

This is the problem and it's where UD has dropped the ball IMO, especially when it comes to these e-pack only releases. Take this one as an example. If they had given people the opportunity to get the physical cards if they build the entire base set (900) then I'd be breaking it right now. Also, if you build 5 base sets, they should automatically give you a set of the first parallel, same if you build 10, etc. You can still force people to trade in singles to get the parallels but at least it would give the people who buy cases a chance at getting something for their money.

I guess the hobby is just headed in a direction that I really don't like

Frank if you look at what it would it cost you to ship that 900 base set to you, you wouldn't do it.
It costs way to much to ship to Canada off that site.
It's still palatable for 3 or 4 cards at a time. I won't ship more then that because it's not cost effective.
The problem is, as a player collector that is increasingly finding it difficult to stay interested I have to be on there to get some needs.

For the ultimate release Henrique had a Ultimate Jumbo Patch /5 in it. So far 2 have shown up on epack. 40% of that particular cards print run.

The only thing I like about this release is that you can't go to an lcs and buy packs.
I don't have an LCS that's easy to get to for me, and my Walmart doesn't stock much.

I can move the physical cards to my comc account and either sell them there or have them shipped from there. They do bulk shipping at more reasonable pricing. My point is that there is absolutely no reason for anyone to open cases of this on e-pack. You'd essentially be flushing money down the toilet
