PRO DRAFT (Big Daddy of sports card games)

Introduced in Christmas of 1974, PRO DRAFT was/is the ultimate for putting football card trading into real use by having your favorite players produce for you in building your dream football team. Via draft, trade or sale against your friends, they could bring their cards over too! :beer:

The game came with 50 '73 Topps regular edition football cards. Parker Brothers made sure there was the correct amount of QB's, TE's, RB's, Guards, Tackles and Centers to make 4 teams up easily during play. No defensive players or other types of cards were in the box. Different types of drafts were selected by chance at the beginning of each turn. Each players turn would turn into a full blown player draft if the right cards were drawn. You could do a college team if you wanted or even your own high school team if you had 2 1/2" sized photos. Was never sold in Canada and I think because of the 11 not 12 player slot deal.

Your ticket to an exciting game where the players become pro football managers competing with other managers to build a winning team. Each game contains 50 official football trading cards. Managers draft and trade real pro players, trying to build the strongest squad. You can even substitute your own collection of football cards.

I have my original game from that year and about 5 years ago I found another on a used game site. The newer one I picked up was in excellent shape and is actually one year newer as it came with 1974 football cards instead of '73's. I bought the second game to play with as a 22 player team. I use the second set for defensive players so you can draft a complete team. The game comes with a very durable and heavy spinner with ball bearings. It has 8 different outcomes on the spinner plus what type of draft available if agreed upon.

Green Contract Cards are in the thousands and the normal player during play is signed for about $40,000 but might go anywhere from $5,000 to $200,000. They also can be stolen or signed under the table. The blue option cards give you some leverage in certain situations. You can play it with your kids today as they can stick in some 2007 players or force them to leave the real pros of the 70's in.

Each player is assigned a value at random except for your first 2 picks. Your favorite player might be a superstar or might end up to be a dud. You have the abillity before each draft to see if a player will be a steady performer with a value between 25 and 60. OR take a chance and draft an "A" value player, he might be a 100 point player or could end up a big fat zero. The first player to complete an 11 player offensive line up (quality or not) gets a 75 point bonus. If say the 3rd player to finish his line up has a better quality of players in his line up he could still win the game. In a 4 participant game the score of the winner is usually around 500 pts.
